The only time this "hard thickened felt" happened to me when using merino was when I used a pre-made batt with layered merino. I could not control the layers. A good reason to lay the merino roving on your own!

Hi, Deb, and welcome to the Forum! Your work is beautiful. I am also interested in adding text to fiber work but have found it a bit tricky to accomplish. Look forward to sharing ideas with you!

How did your eucalyptus dyeing go, Elizabeth?

Autumn is also my favorite season. Your acorn cups make a lovely garland, and it's perfect in such a natural setting.

Thanks, all! I don't know what I will do with this piece. I have stacks of fabric scraps--silk, linen, cotton--eco-printed and awaiting the perfect project.
Nada, the felt did not shrink. I rinsed and air-dried, then pressed with a hot iron.

Thanks, Nada. Yes, it was silk dupioni, but only a scrap. I usually make samples before attempting something large. It will be interesting to see if I can duplicate--or come close to--this first try with eucalyptus.
Viltmaaraan, I simmered in plain water.

Since I have been busy all summer with natural dyeing and eco-printing, I put aside wet-felting temporarily. I decided to eco-print with wool felt, and so I wet-felted some white merino roving I had laying around with eucalyptus leaves, which are usually difficult to find in Chicago, Illinois. But I scored at Whole Foods last week and took the opportunity to use the fresh leaves along with wool felt. Merino wool pre-felt Eco-printed by catwycliff, on Flickr

Looks great, Carole! I often incorporate hand-dyed silk bias ribbon in my weavings.

Fiber maniacs have the funniest experiences in their quest for the pot of gold. Too funny!
BTW, we say "and then the penny dropped..." You say quarter?

Ah, I so enjoyed Barcelona and was very impressed with Sagrada Familia, not to mention other architectural works by Gaudi. Enjoy!

Love these colors, Zara! How ingenious to turn leaves into cuffs...why didn't I think of that?

Angora is difficult. I had a small bunch which I used as part of a pet portrait in felt. I combined it with other natural fibers. I am not a spinner but imagine that would be difficult, since angora is so soft and also short fibered.
Mohair locks add beautiful texture to felt. I have also used commercial mohair yarn in weaving, just a bit.
Keep experimenting!
