I have read of dyeing with cochineal by Marilyn. She asked me to put on the forum about my experiences with natural materials. I dyed with pecans (same as juglans?)and with red clover. See the result : goo.gl/photos/X2uCrdnZi3nLkzW79

Looks interesting, viltmaaraan! Was there something else in the pot besides pecans? Leaves of some kind? I like the soft colors it produced. 🍂🍁🌰🎃

I like the soft colors it produced. 🍂🍁🌰🎃 No leaves, I left my sweater in the pot for the night . So those dark spots came from the shells laying against the sweater, it gave a beautiful look. I didn't use it for the second time, perhaps soft colors would appear than..

Love what you are doing with the dyes Viltmaaraan.Your sweater looks lovely with the toned dyes and the wool is a lovely soft feminine color. I have ordered Jenny Dean's Book on Natural Dyeing and cannot wait to play.I read recently that Birch bark makes a nice red dye- so that will be one to play with when I find some, my cleavers are all growing well so I have roots drying as I type (it is related to Madder a and grows as a weed here in Australia) - lovely rich red dye or print. I have a an old cream pure wool blanket brought at a charity shop and am thinking about dyeing & printing it up and making it into a skirt.

Lovely shades Vitmaaran. I thought there were leaves in the pot too.
Chookie - You'll find Jenny Dean's book very good. It's my "go to" dyeing book. Comprehensive and simple instructions. Interestingly, the multitude of cleavers we usually have in the garden have mysteriously diminished since I decided to collect them for the dyepot.

One of these days I'll post my recent dyeing results. I just can't seem to take the photos when there is light. I dyed using some local sunflowers and got a dirty yellow-ish. I did another batch with goldenrod and got a lovely bright yellow. There! Now that I've told you I'm on the hook for the photos!

Judith my Cleavers only appear in early Spring and by summer have disappeared so maybe wrong time in the Northern Hemisphere? Interesting is they have moved places this year and are appearing in different places to last year...seed distribution I wonder?
