Hello everyone, It's been a long time since i visited the forum, but I try to keep up with everyone by reading the post that come out. Anyway, I have a good excuse as I have been working for months for a big show which took place last weekend in NYC, at Lincoln Center. It was nerve wracking for me as it was my first big show, but well worth all the effort. anyway, I would love to share some of the photos with you or you can visit my flickr and see some. I will try to upload more this weekend, as I'm finally getting back to my old self. My question today- does anyone recommend or use dry clean on their scarves, or recommend to customers? I have not, but think I will do a test next week just to see the outcome of dry-clean. I personally prefer to hand wash than use chemicals, but if it's an option i feel the customer should know…your thoughts? best regards, Josie Read more: feltandfiberstudio.proboards.com/conversation/504#ixzz3GaRhvHFt

Michele,
Thanks for this info. I checked them out and the colors are beautiful. Unfortunately, the cost is too high for me now including shipping from Australia. I'm in the U.S.. Keep me posted if you hear of anything locally. I still don't have the time to do my own dyeing. Perhaps I will put this on my list for next year.

Zed, I do love 2nd hand shops so I need to do a field trip. You reminded me that I may have things I can use from my own closet as I used to buy handbags from the thrift shop years ago. Thanks

Ann- thanks for the quick response. I have already taken a look at the site, and this is exactly what I'm looking for. Marilyn- I think I will try the resource Ann advised as I'm keen on leather right now. I took a class with Andrea Graham about 1-1/2 months ago to learn wet felted handbags, so I want to work on a few smaller projects to develop what I learned. Sharing the bag I made from Andrea's class separately. I'm also working on some smaller items which I think the leather trim would be nice.

Marilyn, thanks and yes I did use a lot of sparkly ribbons, and some other trims I have on hand. I really did not pay attention to how scratchy it was up front, but I know it did not bother me when I had it on. Since I have been using lots of wools on my scarves I guess I have not noticed the shine much. There is one type of silk I have on hand that has more shine than others but not sure what it is. As you said, it does not matter much as you lose during the felting process. I will be taking an online class from Felt Artist Fiona Duthie in about 2 weeks, so perhaps we will learn about holes. It's a surface interest workshop.
Is Haley a member? If yes, perhaps she will read this and offer some tips on making holes. thanks again.. great to have all the feedback.

Thanks Marilyn. I will make sure I rinse well then, as i have only used a small drop of vinegar. Is it true the vinegar helps to set the color? Will post when i experiment with the ruffle scarf.

Zara- I also love your scarf. the design and the ruched up effect is really beautiful. This encourages me more to try using less wool on my nuno felt scarves. Endless possibilities as witnessed by your lovely scarf. thanks for sharing

Marilyn, thanks for sharing more photos of your scarf and process used. I'm crystal clear now. You all have provided so much knowledge on this subject.
By the way, I was reading where you use vinegar in the finishing process of washing the felt. Do you ever have problems getting all the vinegar out so the scarf does not have the smell? i have had the problem before, and wanted to know if you have any tips on this.
thanks
