Ann - I am so nervous about leaving my wool out for a long time even inside of plastic. I have had a few cases in the past where i lost an item even by keeping it inside my closet with cedar blocks. My husband told me he's going to have someone build a cedar closet for me so I can store my wool products for extra protection. As far as the wool fiber I am using the wool containers as you all suggested in your comments. So far I have not had any issues. thanks for your comments

I just checked the dyed silks I have and most were marked chiffon. I will pay more attention to this in the future, as it may have a bearing on my shrinkage. I also noticed some of my old tickets marked as gauze. Has anyone used gauze, and is shrinkage different? I finally made a scarf for myself last week with Los of embellishments. I did a lot of fulling and in the end it rushed up a lot, but since I wanted a more smooth finish I lost some of it in ironing. I did leave some small areas open without wool but hard to see in finished product. I will have to leave more open next time.
By the way how do you add holes to your nuno product. I see this in some work, but not sure how I should do it. Should I cut holes through wool/silk during fulling stage?

Marilyn,
I checked out your autumn photos and the scarf is really beautiful. I love your coloring. Did you dye the wool fiber separately then attached to silk fabric?

Ann- no, the wool is on the one side of the garments only. I did have a rush effect on the backside, but pressed some of this out in some of my scarves. When you say China silk are you referring to Hobatai which is also known by this name? Most of the silk I've ordered from Dharma is Hobatai in 8mm. For the dyed quality I'm using I don't remember if it's Hobatai or chiffon.

ok i will try the plastic storage. Does the same apply to wool fiber that has not been felted? I have been keeping some in plastic containers, but also some are in that type of shoe tree bag that I hang over a door. When I store in here I can easily see my colors.

dear Marilyn,
If I don't hem, won't the edges fray out? I will definitely look out for your blog.

Zed,
I will have to give some serious thought to dyeing my own silk. I guess I always assumed it was difficult, but maybe I need to do more research and look at the options. thanks

Ruth,
I will also try making a scarf with less wool next week. I have seen a lot like this and i do like the effect. If I decide to leave the sides without wool i will have to buy silks that are hemmed, and do the hem myself.

Thank you all for your feedback. This is much appreciated from those who are the experts. I still consider myself a newbie in this art form.
I will also see if I can find the 5mm silk and try this. I think when I ordered from Dharma i got the 8mm previously. Going into summer this 5mm would also be lighter,
best regards, Josie

I know many of you have done craft fairs so I think under business is where I should open this conversation. When dealing with your finished wool product how do you preserve your garments when building up inventory. Concerned about keeping wool unprotected dip urging warm months. Do you keep stored in cedar chest or cedar closet? What about your fiber stash? Thanks Josie
