I am to old for the floor too Lyn. I was thinking it would be easier to layout pictures. I could sit or stand, depending on what was needed. I was thinking a chair with wheels would be good too.

I finished tidying my work area. I have shelves in the corner where I keep embellishments and fibres in tubs: Next to that I have my large tubs of wools, separated by colours, and the smaller tubs have coloured textured wools and locks: I have my Fimo drawers just to the other side of the kitchen hatch, the tubs on top are shoe organisers with my netting organised by colours: I have a dining table from Ikea as my main work area, but there's an old computer table to the side of it for extra space: I've been planning on moving house for about 3 years, so put all my dvds, cds, and books in boxes, they're piled next to a bookcase which has other rubbish on, and a unit with paints next to it, but basically this is the whole area : I had to put another wall hanging at the hatch because the sun came out

I am really liking this thread - getting some good ideas too - I was going to suggest the puzzle mats too - my hubby uses them in the basement in front of his tools and says they really help with fatigue - he got them at Home Depot - Lyn try laying a strip of 'rug grid' liner under them to keep them from sliding. It is sold to go under throw rugs and looks like the shelf liner with holes that are much larger.
To look down on your work when sitting - try a counter height stool - I do that on the rare occasions when I use the table in the basement. I could never work on the floor!!! It would be like the old commercial "Help me I have fallen and can't get up" :-)

I know exactly what your talking about Lyn. I frequently put my work on the floor to look at it before felting, but couldn't lay out that way either. I'm doing more rolling sitting, so I may try lowering it again. My sewing table is lower so I can keep my arms at a 90 degree angle. But I haven't found a comfortable chair I like yet.

nice and organized - but what is a "hatch" - language difference again - also I got a giggle when I read "moving house" in the States that would mean you were moving your house to another lot - not as you intented moving to a new home.

Zed, your workspace looks so neat. I guess I'm going to have to tidy up. :-) but then I won't be able to find anything.

Ok, so here is my felting space, very long kitchen counter with room for one very long project or several smaller projects. Just the right height. Two windows allow natural light. Kitchen sink to immediate left. Left of that, microwave for heating olive soap water. Well, if nothing else, this thread is encouraging a lot of tidying up!
Frances, a 'hatch' is a hole in the wall. It can be used between a kitchen and dining room to enable meals to be passed through to the table instead of walking all the way around, or it could enable two rooms to half-connect and share light.
I'm impressed with the organisation of your stuff Zed and it's a decent size work space.
That's a good size counter Cathy and I like the natural light.

I've found the most comfortable chair is an armless 'office' chair on wheels because they're easy to move and very height adjustable for the task of the moment.

That's what I have now Lyn, it's just not comfortable for me. I don't know why. I've tried three different chairs. ?

I have a discount used office care store near by. I have to go look for a plastic roller chair without arms. I don't want to worry about getting it wet. I may try some of the non slip under the floor pads. I found they would slip unexpectedly and the underside never seemed to dry. You are very organised Zed. Lyn I think I would like your daughter, I house keep the same way.

You would have to part with big bucks but comfort is priceless. (Big bucks? I've been on this forum too long...I'm writing in American!)

Haha Lyn! You sound good as an American, but the tea will give you away. ? One of the chairs I tried supposedly was ergonomic. I think my back is so messed up there's probably nothing out there "on the shelves" that will help. I have found I have to change my position frequently to stay relatively pain free. But you're right I should consult a specialist.
