Some of you have a studio - some use the kitchen or another spare room - since I have seen pictures of some of you thought it might be fun put a photo of your work area with your face - especially since Judy posted her space. So lets use this spot to post photos of our work spaces When I can I am felting outside - The photos are of my front porch and what I can see when looking off of it - I live about 6-7 months of the year in Cumming, GA which is about 30 miles north of Atlanta, Ga in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our other home is a Condo in North Florida - Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island. I will post pictures from there when I return in October. Driveway looking at front porch Looking to right at neighbors yard and house Looking out on our front yard There is a hose bib and a grounded outlet next to the table right at my finger tips.

Hello Frances - good idea! I'm sitting here in my nightie with my first brew of the day reading Frances' post, so I got my camera out and took 3 photos - here's a photo of where I sit when I'm forum-ing. This is my special table (I got it free from recycling!) it's about 4.5 feet long but extends to nearly 8 feet. I use it as a sewing table then clear it off if I want to lay out fibres etc. This is how I left it last night - I always tidy right through the bungalow before I go to bed because I couldn't face any mess first thing! I find it easier to 'get going' if everything's in order. I don't have a lovely view from my craft room Frances - if the curtains were open all you'd see would be the houses on the other side of the road. I have a lovely garden to relax in and to take felty photos. Sometimes I use a kitchen counter when felting because it's easier to be near a sink. Sometimes I felt on my special table.

Love the table - that was a great find - Looks like you have a good sized counter in your Kitchen too. Thank you for participating

Frances., your porch is lovely. It has to be great to be able to felt outside.
Lyn, everything is so neat!
I'm not sure I can even get a pic of my space, it's very messy and cramped. I'm lucky to have a bathroom and a craft room nearby with sinks. I also make use of a spare bedroom nearby for cutting and measuring. Nothing so open or well lit. :-(

Attachment DeletedThis is the space I started renting this summer. It's a gallery/shared studio warehouse and it's worked out surprisingly well. All but one of the other 7 artists are painters and they truly have no idea what I'm doing. (They all seem to be in awe of my organization skills though.) It's really wonderful during art openings because I can easily invite the 'public' in to see what I'm working on and explain my process.

That's wonderful Shana! I have my table up on PVC legs to a good height to save my back as well!

Raising the table height is key, Marilyn... my biggest issue now is the concrete floor. Even with the padding under the table, it's hard to be working for more than 4 hours at a time. I may invest in some of the industrial fatigue mats. They're so expensive though!

I'll have to take some photos but my space is a horrible mess right now. It's fun to see where everybody works though.

Shana, it's an expense you need to make. Your back is too important to jeopardize. Trust me I know. I had to have surgery and it's still not right. I'm not sure where you live, but we have some puzzle like mats that are a little cheaper at home repair stores that serve the same purpose.

I have a space that is a big mess at the moment. I have a 4x8 foot table to work on. My husband made it for me. It is up on pipes too. I have lots of shelve sand never seem to have enough places to put things. below are some pictures of my space and my attempts to get it organised

Shana - your workspace looks so inviting!
I have worked in a bank, as a book-keeper and in a library, so keeping things neat and organised is in my bones. I do make a mess while I'm working but I need to clear up as quickly as possible because I can't think straight when everything's in a mess.
My daughter's 'studio' often looks like the aftermath of an explosion at World of Wool and Hobbycraft combined.

p.s. I used to have my table raised to a better height for standing at, but found that it was then no good for sewing and other things. So after a year or so I got my husband to take the extension bits of to reduce it to its original height. The kitchen counter is a good height for rolling and if I want to roll felt on my table, I sit down to do it.

Lyn how do you find laying out on the shorter table. I am thinking of lowering my table so I can sit and work. my feet do not like the concrete floor in my studio. I tried the big foam puzzle peices but the get water under them and then they slip. I forgot to say what a beautiful place you Francis.

If you're working on a large piece, it's easier to lay out fibres when you can look 'straight down' on them Ann. When the table was higher, it was hard to judge how things were going. I am wondering if that's one of the reasons I've seen felters on youtube laying fibres out on the floor - but I'm too old and unfit to do that!
