I can't believe we're already starting on the third week of January. How has everyone been doing on their daily fiber intake?

Week 3 started out with a 6:00 am call from my daughter who had an emergency dental problem. I had to pick her up and take her to 3 different dental places. She wound up losing the tooth. So I took her home and then took a look at my next project. I made some photo copies of the elements that I want to use in the "Snickers" mini collage. So, even though I didn't get much done, I did make a start.

Sorry about the dental episode with your daughter. Hope she's OK. Nobody I know of likes going to the dentist.

This is really working! When I got home from work yesterday (after a very tiring shift), I ate dinner and sat on the sofa and just wanted to stay there. But I hadn't had my daily dose of fiber so I decided to spend my five minutes just getting my stuff out ready and deciding on colours etc so that I could start this morning. BUT, after five minutes I was happy to do more, so I started felting and my five minutes turned into three hours. I completed the outer pot (it took longer than usual because I made a colour choice mistake and had to fix things) and I plan to make the inner pot tonight and then finish the whole thing tomorrow.

I shifted an upright piano into the hall then tried to find someone who wants it, you can't give them away! I'm going to cut out some circles for coasters later, then I can spend 5 minutes here and there sewing them.

Doing online research on Fox Terriers. That is what my "Snickers" dog is. I have my daughter's photo, but I always do research into photo studies for animals. How the hair lays, shape for the nose and ears. What the bone and muscle structure looks like. A carry over from my painter days. Found a couple of good closeups to study, so I will probably get started soon. Snickers is a smart and feisty dog. Got to capture her essence in fiber. lol

I'm so glad you posted that Lyn. That for me is the biggest thing, getting started. Once I get started I can keep going without a problem. The habit of just doing it is the important thing. This morning I cut up my fused organza for the backs of my bead book pages. I ironed a few on and they look really nice. It hides all the stitching that I colored with my Sharpie.

Started the morning with a "hit and miss" version of housecleaning. (I know you all never do this) Then I finalized my rough drawing of "Snickers" from the research photos. The hard part is making a pattern of lights, darks and mediums. This takes some real thinking. Interpreting in fabric is not exactly like painting. Once I made my divisions on my freezer paper pattern, I also divided it into warm and cool colors. I then put it on my light table and trace my pattern onto another piece of freezer paper that can be cut into sections, labeled in the division numbers.
It now looks like a "Paint by number" pattern. I will probably quit at this point, as the next part involves dragging out fabrics and making choices to fuse and cut. From there, I will have to see how it goes. I may decide to do some thread painting to blend everything together. I want this to look good.

I'd love to see an in process photo Judy. I don't do "hit and miss" housecleaning, I just don't do any at all. So I guess that's the "miss" variety! LOL
I got my bead pages backs fused on and marked for the edge stitching. Now on to stitching.

Ok. Glad to hear that I am not the only one who hates housework. lol Anxious to see this fantastic book when it is finished. I am doing a step by step on my blog page called "Projects of Interetest." Here is the link, if you are interested. judysfiberart.blogspot.com/p/projects-of-interest.html

I'm no domestic goddess either. I reckon clean enough to prevent food poisoning and messy enough to be called home is the right balance. One of our sons is staying fora couple of weeks and has decided he could make himself a pair of trousers!!! He has never done more than sew a button on. After 2 days of making samples - basic sewing and now on to welted pockets, he has now realised that he will need a rather longer apprenticeship. Today is the day for cutting and fitting the pattern and making a toile. It's going to be interesting to say the least. It's been fun so far, with lots of laughter.

That's my philosophy too, Judith And now I'm having a big clean and have discovered dirt and dust in all sorts of places...how does the underside of a door frame get dirty? Or the sides of the washer when it's under a counter? I realise now why they used shelf liners in the past I managed to finish a small camera bag the other day-now I'm wondering if the magnetic clasp will wipe the memory card? I also did some random line sewing on a plain piece of felt to thicken it for coasters/mats.

I wouldn't have thought of the potential problem with magnets and memory cards zed. Apparently skirting boards get very dirty too! Tell me what are skirting boards? ;D

Zed - Supposedly magnets don't affect memory cards on cameras. But I've never done a personal test.
Judy - your progress on Snickers so far is great. Can't wait to see how he turns out.

I don't know about the magnet problem, but I do know that dirt has a mind of it's own. I try not to think about it, as long as I can function. That experience of making men's trousers really made me laugh. I can't even make those crazy things. I spent the morning sorting and fusing fabric for the Snickers project. Not very exciting, but a preliminary step to the project. I use fabric pallet, like I use paint. If you are interested in this continuing soap opera, you can see my next steps on building "Snickers," my daughter's terrier. Oh, by the way, she told me that Snickers is a Rat Terrier. I thought she was a Fox Terrier. But they are very similar. judysfiberart.blogspot.com/p/projects-of-interest.html
