I have been away for a few days but see you have all been incredibly busy. Great work everyone - Sue your baby bonnet is especially cute! My contribution to the challenge was to use some of the prefelt I printed in Ruth's screen printing class to make a hat, this is the prefelt: and the hat:

Thanks Terri ,I do like your hat, the print looks excellent for size on it, and the little curlicues just finish it off - well done you.

Wow Teri, great hat & I bet Ruth is proud of you, the screen printing stayed in well during felting.

What a great hat, so many techniques here, particularly love the way you have curved up parts and added a circle, you are a great designer. I have been having a scratchy chin moment, I have an idea but it hasn't reached fruition yet, so advice would be very welcome. As some of you know I have started weaving, so I thought I could incorporate the two. A stash of bits of felt, an odd ball of cashmere and merino wool for the warp I got in a sale and then weaving. When it's woven I would then cut it off the loom and wet felt it either into a 3D structure or flat pieces for doing something else with. My dilemma is will it felt? will it hold a shape? or am I am being too ambitious and should I try to make it into something else? Here is the start:

It sounds like a great idea Carole. Cathy (Luvswool) is Saori weaving and incorporates wool and other things into her weaving. Why not try a small sample to felt? As far as shape, depending on you want, it may need something to stiffen it for a shape. I'm no expert, but it sounds like fun trying. :-). I had to use Modge Podge to give my stingray a little shape. feltingandfiberstudio.com/2016/05/03/seeing-spots/Good luck!

Carole - it sounds like it would felt just fine. That's where the term boiled wool comes from is from fulling woven woolens into "boiled wool". But a sample to start would be good just so you know how it will shrink.

Carole, It should felt just fine! You used wool, so that should make it even easier. I felted a number of small weaving samples awhile ago, and even the ones with cotton included were able to be felted. Here’s the link to the blog I posted here: feltingandfiberstudio.com/?s=weaving

After reading your blog Cathy I'm even more inspired, I love how you've used felt for the background colour. I'm leaving ends of fibre hanging out at the sides thinking they may be the bits that felt over the seams. Hopefully I'll have something to share soon

Carole, looking forward to seeing the outcome of combining felt and weaving.
