That's what I was thinking, Zara If I stitch a regular resist down the middle, can I get away with it?

Shepherdess, his body is hollow, as are the tentacles, but I felted him so hard that he is pretty solid to the touch. I found a photo of a metallic "steampunk" octopus on-line and based the shape of the eyes on that. The little bit of white was something I remember being taught at school to bring the eyes to life. I was over at the coast today but dint think to take him with me!!! Zara, I wouldn't worry too much about the number of sections you have. Whether you use four or eight, it's all the same principle so really no more difficult to do.

Cool hat Chookie, love the resist shape too, depending on where you cut it open there are lots of possibilities for different shapes and forms.
I think most of us have made the same mistake with buying "bargain" wool, mine was buying from eBay and receiving several bags of semi felted wool tops of dubious breed origin. Could you needle felt what you have left? If so, using it as core material might save it from the compost heap.

The hat looks interesting. Maybe you could try shaving it to make it less fuzzy. Terri is right we have all done it when we started out. Usually is some person who doesn't make felt who thinks its not good for spinning so I guess it could be used for felting. It has taken me years to stamp that attitude out of my spinning guild. I just keep saying crappy wool is crappy wool and makes crappy felt when ever I hear it.

Neat idea Chookie. Are you planning on trying that hat shape again with different wool? As Teri and Ann said, everyone has bought some cheap, crappy wool at some time or other.

Ditto to buying crappy wool. The hat looks cool. Ann's suggestion to shave might help. You may also consider doing some hand stitching to embellish it.

Beautifully designed Chookie! I'm sorry that you were disappointed with the wool but Marilyn's suggestion is a good one.

Your hat looks very interesting. I would love to try felting a hat but I'm worried I might be way out with the sizing and waste all that wool!

I love your colours Smiff and the beading is a great finish.
Never stop experimenting!

nice bowls Smiff, was the resist starting to buckle before you cut the holes? If you roll it to that stage it is rare for the layers of wool to separate later. Trying to felt to bowls separately and get them to fit neatly inside one another is really difficult to do well. Your approach is the one I would have taken.

Not so much an exercise in using resists but more about finding ways of joining pieces made with multiple resists. I have been trying to find the most aesthetically pleasing way of joining multiple pods for a wall hanging, so, most unusually for me, I made a few test pieces... Making a series of separate pods and joining them with a single layer of felt on the back: Laying out the resists in a single layer with wool laid out over the top of them (only the resists on the edge of the piece had wool foldeded over their edges): finally a combination of the two methods above, the resists were individually wrapped in black wool before being covered in continuous layer of green wool: I was surprised by just how different they all look.

Smiff I think the bowls come out well. The beads look great on it too. For a bowl within a bowl I think I would put a resist between the 2 coloured layers so I could felt it longer before cutting.
Great pod clusters Terri
