I got the octopod made at the weekend which you can see here lincsinstitches.com/2016/03/20/wet-felting-with-a-book-resist/It was a bit fiddly but after reading Ruth's post I used plenty of wool at the intersections to ensure it held together ok. I couldn't roll it with the resist in place as it was too stiff and I was a bit concerned about rolling it once the resist had been removed as I didn't want the tentacle walls felting together. I got around this by sliding a thin strip of bubble wrap down inside each one until the rolling was finished. I'm going to felt a body next and try to join it together to make an octopus......fingers crossed!

That's really super Karen, such long tentacles! Your template was much much wider than mine... I made 'spikes', prefelted keeping the wider end dry then attached them onto the ends of the template as I laid out my fibres, so my octopod is not as hollow as yours! I'm looking forward to seeing him with a body.
What a super blog you have, & what a talented lady you are, I think I love every project you have made! Especially in awe of the 3 tall trees. & I am jealous you got to a Jenny Pepper workshop.

Karen, that will look great, your octopus on your skirt at the festival !! Nice work, specially the stiff material could cause trouble. Nice site btw too !

So what I did is super simple for most of you, but it's my first time using a resist. I used an instructional post from this site, had a little difficulty making my pot look good, refelted/fulled it, and now feel it looks a little better. Still bumpy and uneven but at least it's a little more solid-feeling. I used merino wool with some silk noil and angelina fibers as embellishment.

Lizd that's a great little vessel and nice and neat around the top too. I love the colours you've used which are very cheery

I can't say I love the octopod as it looks a little scary to me - I'm not great with things with tentacles. But I'm very impressed with your book resist experiment :-)

Lizd, the pod turned out great. It takes patience and practice.

LizD, your pod/vessel is wonderful. That is a very nice result, it certainly doesn't look like this was the first time you tried a resist. Are you planning on making more?
