This is my first attempt at some clothing vs just scarves and shawls. I felted both sides of this vest, so it is reversible. This was all done with baby alpaca. I am happy with the way it came out. Alpaca vest

Liz - I already complimented you on Facebook and you responded with the photo of the pattern you used. I am sure the others on this site would like to see it also so I hope you do not mind that I am posting it here. I am putting it on my wish list.

Hi Frances. I seen your picture and thought, how did you get that? Lol no I don't mind sharing at all. I forgot actually where I had seen this vest pattern. I have a sketch book that I doodle in and paste pictures from catalogs, the web etc. thanks for sharing it. Liz

Thank you Crealou and Elizabeth. I did enjoy the process, but it did take three tries to get it felted as much as I wanted it to felt.

Very nice vest! I think I need to give felting alpacka another go... I have a couple of bags of alpacka, unfortunately containing quite a lot of bits of hay too, but have only tried felting smaller samples yet. It seems to require a careful touch and quite a bit of patience to get it to felt nicely from the start. I definately need more practice.

Hi Zara, Depending on your alpaca grade of fibers it can be difficult to felt. If it is fiber from their legs, tails or top knots, don't bother trying to felt it. It becomes a hairy mess. I do use some of my older alpaca fiber for felting, which is their main blanket, but only because the fibers are shorter and most of the time a little courser. Sometimes it takes a long while to even get them to felt. I invested in one of those roller felting machines. It saves a lot of labor for me.
