I actually got around to laying out two pieces for felting, yesterday. Both using natural wools and fibres for making A5 diary covers out of for the fair.

That's a good start Zed. I am hoping to get another hat laid out today and get it started. and get more soap ready to go.

I got my two pieces felted and another laid out. I might see if I have time to try that new silk today, but I don't want to spend so much time making felt, I have no time to make anything out of it or get ready for the fair!

I've been sewing and knitting most days recently, but really must get my felting mojo pumped up. I have some vague ideas running through the old grey matter, but nothing is crying out. The garden, however is crying out for me to finish the autumn tidy up!

I need to do that "autumn tidy up" really soon. Otherwise it's going to start snowing on top of everything and then I'll clean up in spring like I usually do

I got a piece with the new silk laid out and felted yesterday. It looked nicer/brighter before the last bit of fulling I wanted to make sure it held up to lots of use as a book cover, but still looks nice.

I have spent the better part of an hour reading all the posts and catching up on the forum blog - makes me want to get my hands wet. I did start on my Christmas Postcard - not sure if I will use it or start over.
Someone mentioned using sea shells in a piece - do you glue them on - or felt over them and then slit the felt to show a portion of the shell - I would like for the entire shape of the shell to be the focal point of a piece.
Having a hard time staying focused on one project - I keep gathering supplies for other projects and have little piles everywhere. :-)

Frances - you have lots of different options on attaching items like a sea shell to felt. You could do as inclusions as Marilyn has shown, you could use a heavy glue to attach them, you could stitch them on either by having small holes drilled in the shell or by using a "shisha mirror" stitch or even by running the thread across the shell in different directions, or you could treat it like a cabochon and use beading techniques to hold it down. You could also put the shell on top of the wool and cover with a sheer fabric and nuno felt it around the shell to hold it in place. I am sure there are other options that I haven't thought of

Ruth and Marilyn - you are both fountains of knowledge - thank you both - I had already thought of drilling a small hole - probably need to do a little practice piece to see what I like best. I thought they would make nice angel wings.
