Starting a new daily dose of fiber, as the previous thread was some 25 pages! My new daily dose is a seascape I’ve been working on all week, mixed in with other projects, including a small bowl and a prayer flag for my deceased niece and nephew. The seascape is “An Octopus’ Garden” (named after a Beatles tune)-- An Octopus’ Garden by catwycliff, on Flickr

I bet the octopus (octopi?) will really like that garden!

Thanks ladies! I love making seascapes because I can really let my imagination go and dream up new species along the way.
BTW, octopus refers to one and the generally accepted plural is “octopuses” rather than “octopi” (a common mistaken plural). Although there is no octopus in my fiber art, the garden belongs to an octopus who is hiding in his den. I know, TMI.

It looks great Cathy, it looks like a great garden for octopuses. Will your prayer flag be felt? I think I have only seen the silk ones in Tibet.
I have no daily dose for today but Friday and Saturday I spent my time demonstrating spinning and carding. I think I did enough to last me a week.

That's gorgeous, Cathy I like the seahorse. I've had my paints out the last few days, no fibrey things.

Thanks all! Ann, the prayer flag was a combination of natural fabric scraps, including wool felt, silk ties, cotton and linen--all recycled. Then I hand-embroidered the names and birth dates of my niece and nephew, who were both in their early 30’s. This was an idea inspired by India Flint’s invitation via her blog, prophet of bloom, which I subscribe to. Worth a look! prophet-of-bloom.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/an-invitation.html

That's a great idea. There was a few years ago a tree of peace( I think it was peace) where they asked for people to send leaves you had made and then added tem to the tree in an installation.

Today I finally finished "Autumn" after much angst over what to do. I liked the burlap background, but also liked the idea that I would have 3-4 inches of burlap around the picture. I decided I would put it on a very big dark deep bronze wall so I felt that would work best. I couldn't buy a big enough burlap canvas, so I decided to buy a premade canvas and burlap and make my own. I bought some burlap with gold in it. Gotta have bling. Then I treated the back with clear gesso for strength. But when I put it on the canvas the white showed through, so I painted the canvas a burlap color. Then when I was ready, I glued the burlap onto the canvas so there would be no stretching. Stapling the canvas was another treat, I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow. With needle and thread, I lashed the picture onto the canvas. Then put in a wire hangar on the back and hung it on the wall. feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/bfior9il8czpujgrdrqh.jpg Here is a broader view with the alcove adjacent to it which has gold, red and green faux paint and a vase my son Brad made with autumn flowers. feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/d5vj7crsmexmt6zie2hk.jpg I think the gold in the burlap will help to bring these two spaces together. Now what to do with the rest of the pile?

Marilyn - the finished 'autumn' is lovely and placed perfectly to complement the alcove. Is your son a ceramicist? I like the vase very much.
p.s. the pile of burlap could make some interesting items for Christmas? Stockings, presi wrapping, table mats etc.
p.p.s. just re-read your post and I'm now not sure if you have a pile of burlap or a pile of felted pictures!

Just gorgeous Cathy. Takes me back to the '60s. Thanks for inviting us in. "I'd ask my friends to come and see An octopus's garden with me I'd like to be under the sea In an octopus's garden in the shade" PS Thanks for starting a new 'daily dose' thread.
