Michaels has a better quality of canvas, but are a little higher in price, but they do have the coupon. A better choice might be the Hobby Lobby with the 40% coupon. I mount most of my fiber art on canvas and put a wire with screw eyes on back. Hangs just like a picture on the wall.

Judy, I actually did go to Michael's with the 40% off coupon and purchased several canvases…the quality did look good! I also picked up a hanging kit that has those D-rings and wire in it--sure hope I don't need a drill! What method do you use for attaching your fiber work to the canvas? i hate the idea of poking holes in the canvas...

There are two different methods that I use. Some of my work has to be displayed in both quilt shows and galleries. For those double duty works, I use a beading thread called Fireline. It is strong nylon and does not break easily. There is a black and a white version of it. I can always remove it for quilt shows by clipping it free. I stab a hole in the canvas from undnerneath and catch some of the backing or just go straight through to the front. I come back again on an angle not too close to the first hole. I tied off each stitch. I have a tutorial on this on my blog. It is called Gallery Hanging Tutorial done on foam board. Just do the same thing with your ready made canvas. If you want it to be permanent, glue it on. Paint all sides. I use a product called Bindex, but any type of strong glue will do. I put screw eyes on the stretcher bars. You don't have to drill. Easy to use. Then I use a wire in them.

I think your version is much nicer. Lovely flowers and texture.

Jufergu, thanks--those are great tips for hanging fiber art. It would be nice to see a couple of my projects on the walls!
koffipot, thanks!

Ours of course (yeh right!).
Kaz did a really good job on that - you'd never know that it was her first wet felted picture would you?

Yes - I certainly remember those and thought of them when Ann first introduced us to Stewart Stephenson.

Here is my attempt (be kind, it's my first quarterly challenge entry!). I wanted 2 almost-square pieces for a hessian bag, & looking for inspiration I remembered this challenge. My pieces are inspired by 'Bali Summer' & 'Purple Tropic', but as I am not a very abstract person, I let them become definite flowers!

What a fabulous bag! I hope you enjoy using it - you will certainly get many admiring glances.
The way you've blended the colours is beautiful and the stitching and beading enhance the felt in a wonderfully subtle way.
I can't choose a favourite - I like them equally and I think your versions of Bali Summer and Purple Tropic are better than the pictures that inspired them.

I agree - it's a wonderful bag and I love the flowers. I think you have caught the feel of his pieces without copying them.
I am glad that you made an entry into the quarterly challenge and I hope you'll continue to do so. I have found that the challenges often push me in a direction that I wouldn't have taken on my own and I always learn from the experience.

It's terrific the way you combined two quarterly challenge pieces to adorn a hessian tote bag…great idea! The color blending on the purple piece is wonderful, so I guess that's my favorite; however, both pieces shine!
The quarterly challenge does inspire, and as Ruth, said you are prompted to try something you might not otherwise. As an aside, you may discover an artist who is new to you.
