Ah, finally, my second quarter challenge, based very loosely on SS series of Sass paintings. The flowers were about the only paintings I really liked, though I usually don't go for florals. I did like some of his abstract art, but…so here we are. I call this "Flowers Dance." The work is wet felted and needle felted and measures approximately 20 x 25. Question for the group: How do you think this should be mounted? I have used a dowel rod on my Pollock piece, but I am looking for something more suitable…this one is a bit heavier. feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/rdppuuu88p9jvmhm1svv.jpg

Great combination of texture and relief of the flowers - I like how you made the stems. I would suggest mounting it on a painted canvas that is about 1-2" bigger all the way around the piece. Perhaps a really dark grey blue?

I love the 3 dimensional flowers and stems Cathy. The mixture of colors and textures is terrific. I like it much better than the Sass pictures.

Many thanks, Ruth and Marilyn! I enjoyed combining the wet and dry felting methods, a first for me!
So Ruth, are you recommending one of those stretched canvases that artists use? Using acrylics for the paint?

Yes, your flowers are much prettier than SS's! I like the individuality of the flowers on their lovely stems.
I think your wallet is in for a shock. I'm lucky to have a shop nearby that sells cut-price art supplies. The quality of the stretched canvas is inferior to that of a 'proper' art shop, but if it's to display a piece of felt in my own home (i.e. not for sale) then it's good enough.

Try Bargain stores for pre-stretched canvases, our Home Bargains/Quality Save has them for great prices. Your picture turned out great, Cathy! I was going to suggest that foam mountboard and mini easel as an alternative, until I realised how big it is.

Great flowers, I really like the way they pop out. Our big arts and craft store Michael's puts canvases on sale quite often. I got mine 50% off witch is good because it's a fairly large one. You have Michael's In the states don't you?

Turned out great, Luwswool! Did you attach your flowers with a needle or stitched them on? I like the way you made the stems too.

Thanks, Lyn, Zed and Ann! I enjoyed the process. We do have Michael's in the USA, as well as many large art/craft stores. Better do my comparison shopping on the Web!

Halay, I needle felted the flowers and stems on to the background. Each piece (including the background) was wet-felted first. I really enjoyed playing around with the stems…thanks!

Cathy, it depends on which Michaels store you go to for a variety of sizes. I've found Hobby Lobby sometimes has a bigger variety of sizes. Dick Blick has the stretcher frames and canvas, but that's a bit more work. I always wait for a 40% off coupon for any of them. ;-)
