I am having so much fun, they are acid dyes, and I am following Zed's instructions, the first lot included silk carrier rods - I am over the moon, the colours are so good and variegated I can't wait for them to dry to make something up - a sunset is shouting out at me, and they are so structural even tho I've been pulling the fibres apart and stretching them, I am having a fun Saturday, the silk cocoons came out great too, but now I've pulled those apart as well, the throwsters waste is just gorgeous and the first lot of fleece is very interesting!!! more to come out soon - it's like Christmas in my kitchen. Of course I don't have any of the proper equip - so it's little measuring spoons, saucepans with cake trays and metal colanders for the steaming - and it's working :-)

I love what you have done with your dyes and the colours are fabulous, the other day I bought dye powders for wool and a kilo of carded sheep fleece, but I haven't a clue where to start. The instructions are in Bulgarian!!! but it does talk about vinegar, I only want to do small amounts as practice, and someone suggested cutting the powder with salt to make it more manageable for measuring - but I'm still at a loss, any suggestions would be very helpful. I'm used to using merino and the sheep felt is quite harsh and wiry.
After writing this I realised that the post has pages of info, so helpful, you've given me courage to go off and have a go :-)

thank you Zed, it was a delight to make, and to embellish - I think I need to return to this artist, here is the other one in it's basic state before it got the Pollock treatment

A month or so before the Pollock challenge I had been inspired by the artist Rassouli, I think his art work lends its self to felt work, do you agree? the piece I used for my Pollock piece was a Rassouli piece I had been working on. But prior to that I had a go at intrepreting this piece, I think he calls it moon woman Lots of detail here,, including machine stitch and hand embroidery, and beading (of course)

the main problem I found with freehand machine stitching is staying awake!!! it's a very meditative process and I found my eyes drooping :-)

Very close Ruth, I used sun dyes, just laid out leaf shapes over painted fabric and left it out in the sun, the dye under the shape stays white, or what ever the base colour is, great fun to use and so easy - so they tick all my boxes :-)

thank you for all those links, I can see today is taken care of now the embroidery on the booties is simple hand embroidery, as is the embroidery on most of the pots, but the swallow pot is a pre digitised embroidery, I love free hand machine embroidery and have even had a go at that technique when you free hand machine embroider and have part padded to raise images or shapes - can't remember what it's called, is it trapunto - here is a wee pic of a sampler I was working on:
