This "cover" idea is very intriguing!
I have been meditating about a cover for a small stool-table that we have in the bathroom, that was originally an upcycled one found around, with its top covered in manga style scraps of paper and the legs painted blue. Its top cover is now scratched and a bit ruined, so I was thinking about a felt cover, as it would also be water resistant, whereas the previous cover was not and that is the reason it got ruined in the end. My main issue is that I do not know how to fix the felted top to the stool, so I am still meditating instead of making..I am trying to not sew, and I do not have a staple gun or similar.
An armchair also badly needs a cover, and a lamp... Well, there is leisure to choose in my flat!

Perhaps you could make the stool cover like a shower cap if the stool is round? You could stitch elastic around the edge of the outside circle and then pull it tight to fit around the top of the stool? Hope that makes sense.

I did think of saying "how about a 'me' cover" as I have a nuno felt patchwork jacket that I started a couple of years ago and have made up my mind to finish this year. Mind you I said that last year too. But then, I've just been to 1855, the Artisan Gallery where I've been trying to sell some of my wares, to remove it all as I only gave it until the end of last year. Several of the items are fabric covered books of various descriptions, so you may well get a post about them in February. 😁

Yes Ann - a garment is a 'me' cover - great idea!
Caterina - a stool cover would be cool! But it sounds as if you have plenty of other things to cover.

Ruth: that would be a great idea, I must keep it in mind for the future, but unfortunately it's a rectangular stool-table.
Ann: wow, a "me" cover is a fab idea!
Lyn: 😅 yes, I have loads of stuff to cover, so plenty of choices, that's why this is such a good challenge for me, if only I will find the time to start on one project!

Anyway, I am thinking, Ruth, that bedsheet are not round but have elasticated bands that make them snug all the same, so maybe if I use the same system I can use elastic on a rectangular shape...if I am making sense.

I think that would work. I have used a "drawstring" rather than elastic when covering the seat and back of typing/workshop chairs - elastic tends to let go after a while. And this has just reminded me that I have a hole in the seat of my workshop chair, which is one of those "perch your bum on" tall type, originally to go with an ironing board. So there's definitely a cover to make.
The "me" cover may well end up being a year's challenge. I've just got involved in helping with scenery for our February panto "Aladdin", having done all that was required of me for the making of props. 😓 So that's my spare time sorted till after the 17th Feb. There will be more information on that in April's post - unless something more interesting crops up. 😵

Yes, Caterina, the bedsheet idea makes sense. Or a drawstring would work too. Or even lacing the edges together on the underside of the stool.

Thank you for the working ideas, Ann and Ruth. This is definitely worth a shot. If I manage to find some time, I will try the challenge, then.

How about making a square the same size as the top and velcro it to the top? Then you could change the top to match the season, mood or whenever you like. Whenever it gets dirty you could easily wash it.
Ann, I like the "me cover".

Sorry for the size but it won't let me make it smaller.

The cover may be scorched but it's preventing fingers getting burnt!
