To my knowledge banana fibres are similar to silk indeed, may be even with more shine. I believe banana has the most sheen of the fibres I know. But now there are so many new ones!

That looks different to the banana fibre I have, but mine could be bleached. Banana is a bast fibre so it is most like nettle/Ramie or Flax or Hemp. it is stiffer than the regenerated cellulose fibres like bamboo or viscose, so when it felts is is slightly more angular than the waves of bamboo or viscose (and protein fibres like soy, silk, milk) Banana is the top fibre on this sample: Finnish wool with 'other' speciality fibres by zedster01, on Flickr That was on Finnish wool, it looks similar with Merino, but with something like Suffolk, and all fluffed up before adding, you get cool results like this: Grey Suffolk and banana fibre by zedster01, on Flickr
