Button/blanket stitch isn't hard. Although I do have to look up how to start it every time. a trick is to put 2 marks on your finger to use as a gauge so you get the stitches the same distance apart every time.

Brilliant, Ann! I never thought of that. Now I hope I can remember it next time I do that stitch.

I used elastic stitched across the gap with overlapping felt work, it works for all wrist sizes :-)

It's great idea Carole! Do you use elastic in matching colours?

I have struggled with the issue of fastening too. Tried different varieties; press-buttons, regular buttons and buttonholes or a loop of elastic band, and straps used like a shoelace to be able to adjust the size. In the end, I think I prefer regular buttons and buttonholes. If you need to alter the size, you can always move the button. Button/blanket stitch around the buttonhole is probably a good idea.

Inspired by this conversation about wristwarmers and fastening I made a long length pair I added a short piece of elastic at the wrist point and sewed the finger edge corners together so they can fit over much wider hands/wrists than mine. I've made them for a friend so I will wait to see how they work for him! Dragon Wristwarmers by blyth whimsies, on Flickr Dragon Wristwarmers by blyth whimsies, on FlickrSave

Wow Marian! Those are quite the wrist warmers. Your friend is a fan of dragons? What is the yellow material that the dragons are made from?

Beautiful, Marion. Are they sewn together at the wrists, or is there just a piece of elastic between the sides? Could you post a photo of the underside? That's a great idea, BTW

What a good idea Marion. Lovely wrist warmers and I like dragons stitched on. They are stitched, aren't they?
