My daily dose for the first day of February contains no fiber, unless you want to count my socks. I took a nice one-week break away from the chilly Chicago winter to spend some time in Naples, Florida, which is a rather nice community on the southern Gulf of Mexico. Now back to reality! Even though I did not work with fiber for a week, I happily read all of your fiber-licious entries to the 1st Qtr. Challenge, as well as the Daily Dose. And yes, I feel guilty! NOT What are you planning for February? Feel free to share your trials, tribulations and photos of fiber! My shoes at the beach by catwycliff, on Flickr

Thought I'd start a thread for February. I'm home now and have started to spin some Alpaca/Camel/Mulberry Silk mixture I've had stored for a couple of years. Not a very clear photo, flic.kr/p/DhV2AY

I think you've found it Judith. Nice spinning!
Cathy - I'm a tad jealous of your time on that lovely beach!

Yes, though I think I've had a little help from admin. Nice to get some sunshine Cathy. I spotted an Ashford Traditional for sale on Spinners UK this afternoon and it's quite local, so I'm going to look at it in the morning. I'm quite excited - hope it's going to be OK.

Well did some felting on the first. I started my challenge piece. I started a pouch for holding bills in my show purse and I went to the guild and was an expert on the expert Q&A panel. it was easy really but nerve wracking thinking about it before. Today I did nothing with fiber. but I thought about it. LOL

Unfortunately, no fiber for me either. I'm further up the coast of Florida having celebrated my grandson Luke's birthday in Winter Garden and then headed up to St. Augustine on the Atlantic coast. We'll be traveling around the state visiting, then back to WG for my other grandson Joshs birthday on Valentine's Day. I did bring wool and will hopefully will get to felt some Valentines.
Nice spinning Judith. Good luck with the wheel!
Well, I've been thinking about the challenge, but am waiting for inspiration. :-)

Having looked at the Ashford timeline, I've decided against this wheel as it's very much older than I thought.
Not disappointed though, as I've learned a lot without wasting my money.

Back to reality, although a bit of warmth was quite wonderful!
Today I am taking some of my smaller weaving samples and combining them with felt. No planned project in mind.
Love the handspun, Judith!

I might consult Leonor about a wheel, Judith, I think she has a modern one. I want one, but I don't know enough yet. I also want a loom or looms and a peg weaving whatsit. My dose yesterday was resists at the well being centre. I had vessels in my head and got out the 'naturals' box of wool. I took a couple of resists as an idea of size, because we only have 2 hours, and chose a small bird pod shape for me. Jo drew around a plate for a circular resist and Ruth said she'd like to make a glasses case. We put the glasses on the buble wrap to gauge the size needed and then roughly added half again for shrinkage. Then we all set about adding a couple of 'layers' of English 56's then a decorative layer of coloured wools. Ruth does a fine layer each top to bottom and side to side for each layer so I wasn't concerned about uneven shrinkage as she basically did 6. Getting close to 3pm we were talking about finishing off at home, and Ruth said 'You know this hasn't really shrunk much' so we talked about other options, little bag etc. and said we'd have to try again next week. Thinking about it on the bus home, I had one of those 'Doh!' moments where you relised what you did wrong. Having vessels in my head and using the natural wools, I didn't think properly about thickness/shrinkage/layers etc and how what you'd need for a glasses case would be a lot different for a sturdy, self supporting vessel! I'm sure the resist size would have been quite accurate for a couple of regular layers of Merino. Someone's going to cotton on soon just how scatterbrained I am and rethink having me there! On the plus side, it's going to make a really nice little shoulder bag!

Zed, with a name like Ruth I'm sure she'll forgive you.

Empathy coming your way Zed. I make the most stupid of mistakes at times, but there's only me to witness my own embarrassment so nobody else ever finds out! I'm sure your friends at the well-being centre prefer you to be normal, with regard to fallibility, so that they are encouraged to just have a go and to not worry about getting it right all the time.

Very well said, Lyn! It is more difficult to be around someone who is perfect than someone who is human and makes mistakes. Here’s my daily dose, small weaving samples made from an assortment of gifted yarn off-cuts. Trying to pair with pre-felts. Stay tuned for more experiments!
