Frances, where are you hiding the rest of your supplies? That CAN'T be all you have!!! I'm meeting with a contractor on Monday to discuss adding an enclosed deck (studio!!) to the house. I can't wait to have a space dedicated to my work! Zed - I got a new kitchen a few years ago and it was SO worth it!! It's so much fun to cook in a space that actually works for you! Don't let the contractor bully you into doing something you don't want. I had to insist that I wanted more counter & storage space and NOT space for a monster fridge. There's plenty of space in the garage for an overflow fridge. Here's my current 'drying rack'. It's in our laundry room, which works OK until water drips on my DH's head :-) feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/aevnfdw_4lyegbnbu2dm.jpg

Frances - great job on tidying up. I have so much stuff that it's really hard to tidy any more. Zed - a new kitchen sounds wonderful although getting to that point might be a bit of a stress. Elizabeth - I am envious of you getting a new studio. What fun. Good idea on using the over door space for a drying rack. Why would your DH be in the laundry room???

Ruth, I'm afraid to tell you why he's in the laundry room for fear someone will steal him... He probably washes more laundry than I do (and is well aware of wool), definitely cleans more than I do, cooks if he has to, does most of the yard work...
I definitely won the lottery on the second try

Zed, a new kitchen! How fantastic. Are you requesting a very long kitchen counter? That’s where I do all my felting, and it is the perfect height.
Frances, nice job on getting organized. Although my stuff is not totally organized, I did purchase one of those “water hog” mats which is placed in front of the kitchen counter when I felt. I also use my yoga mat for extra padding under my feet to relieve back/foot strain.

Lots of excitement – Zed – loved designing my Kitchen in our Condo – If you have room be sure you add an island and make it a height that is comfortable for you to work standing, 40 or 42 inches. Standard counter height is 36 inches which is too low for me so I had my counters raised also. Lyn – thanks for the tip about the dog crate liner – do not have dogs and did not know there was such a thing. I use a rimmed cookie sheet when I can but it is too small for a lot of things.
Yes I am making a rubbing board with the glass thingies you put in vases with flowers – realized I had a bag of them left from some project in with my floral supplies. Also one red glove made and another one to go on the table.
Elizabeth – A studio would be wonderful – was visiting friends today who just moved into a new house and have a covered porch that could have been a Sunroom – I immediately thought I would have done a Sunroom with a sink.
I have a closet in the hallway that is 60 inches wide with four shelves that are only 12 inches deep that I had built when we designed this house. It is great because the narrow shelves made it easy to see everything.
Also I have donated all of my cross stitch, tole painting & some other miscellaneous books and supplies. I only have floral design and felting supplies plus my sewing machine and sewing storage box. Plus the usual assortment of craft paints, glues, tools and other odds and ends. I am trying to become more of minimalist. It is so freeing.

Frances -Minimalism is only a dream when you do crafts! Why wouldn't anyone think to put a sink in a sunroom? I'd also have a central drain in the floor too - like a wet room!

Am I the only one not excited about the kitchen? I don't have any say over it, it's a housing association house, and certainly not big enough for an island, the whole thing is about 8 feet square, probably smaller than most of your closets. I live in what the politically correct call a 'poor inner city area', commonly known as a council estate, a bit like the projects in the US. It's bad enough as it is now, but I have just enough room for my table with one leaf out. New regulations want stuff switched around, I don't like the idea because it reduces space and increases the risk of any sink leaks damaging food. That's first on my list when I win the lottery, Judith, a wet room

How could I forget the floor drain?

Sorry Zed - we were all thinking some exciting renovations instead of silly bureaucrats messing about.

That's alright, Ruth I'm sure it'll be nice when it's done, I do get all new cupboards, tiles, flooring etc, so it's not all bad. I just hope the person who moves in after me likes black! I wonder if they'll put me a drain in the floor?

Tell them the drain in the floor will help keep it cleaner

Zed I am sure new will be good. Did you get to pick the colour? Is it just the tile that has colour? Fingers crossed you win the lottery. There would definitely be a move in my future if I won. suppose I best go buy a ticket

Sympathise Zed - the kitchen in my last house was approx 8 feet square so I understand your frustration. I only had to put up with it for 21 years though.

Ann - You've got to be 'in it to win it' as they say. Good luck!
