Hi all, I have some beautiful hand dyed roving but I would like to use it as a batt. Is it possible to use a carder to turn it into a batt without losing all the colours..is there a special way to do this? Am worried I will end up with brown!

You can card it into a batt by just carding it once. Then the colours do not blend all too much and you get a wonderful swirly pattern when you felt it.

Thanks Inger,
So if I have let's say 150g and I card it on a drum carder. Would you do the whole 150g at one time? Or split it into smaller bits?
Thanks

Just card it all in one go. And see how much will fit onto the drum. It slightly depends on what you wish to do with it.

Give it a try but most drum carders won't hold a full 100grams. How mixed are the colours now in the roving you want to card? Ann

There are about 5 colours and I want to try and keep the striping effect. Not sure if it is possible. Just getting ready to buy carder and getting all excited about projects. Bags, slippers, hats...so many things!

Shelley if you card in one line and dont spread it out over the drums it should be fine, you might have to do it in smaller amounts but then you shouldnt end up with the colors all blending together !
