There are 2 kinds of foam. high and low expanding. Maybe low expanding would be best. I will have to try this the next time my hubby has half a tube left.

Dind't realise there were 2 kinds - perhaps the low expanding type gives a more solid result??
I thought of gaffer taping feet to make slipper lasts - don't tell Shelley though, that child has suffered enough!!!

I have a pair of duct tape boot lasts. A friend and I had such a laugh making them. For boots don't make them out of foam. You would have to break them to get them out. You can fill them with scrunched up bags to make them solid for felting then take the bags out and you can get the lasts out.

I have done slippers this way...do you think for a workshop - slippers on lasts like the ones Ann discribed or made on resists?

well for me I want to finish something on a last or form but I like to start flat with a resist. Its easier to lay out for me.

I always make slippers on a flat resist and make both at the same time. Then cut down the middle of the resists at the top of the slippers to take the resist out. Then the slippers usually turn out evenly shaped.

What a great idea to make a hat block, expanding foam now on my shopping list too, and had no idea there were 2 sorts. I have heard of DIY dress makers dummies being made with gaffer/duct tape, but to get your own shape, you have to be the one in the tape and I am not that keen.
Shelley those are lovely slippers.

Shelley - beautiful slippers! I love your colours and decoration, mine have been plain up to now, but aren't they so cosy and comfy?
I've a flat resist just waiting to be used.
