Here is my felt applique I'm working on. I wet felted the blue and red felt and then cut out the applique design. It's based on felt rug designs from Kyrgyzstan. PICT9634 by fiberruth, on Flickr The next thing to do is to couch a cording around the applique. What color do you think I should use? Usually they use another bright contrasting color.

That's a fiddly bit of cutting out Ruth - I'm impressed - it's not easy.
How would gold cording look?

I think gold or mustardy Ruth. Love it. Looks like the one on my wall.

I think gold is a good idea but I couldn't find any. I got forest green so we'll see how that looks. The plans are to sew it today.

Green should work with those colours. Are you going to use the piece with a hole in it for another work?

Are you talking about the negative cut out of the blue? I want to make another red piece of felt and do one that is the opposite of this one. The only problem is that some of the edges are really thin on the blue piece and it might not hold up well.

First thing that came to mind was green. But yellow would work too. I will be interested in how you finish this.

Ruth could you make it 3 layers to give it more substance?

I'm thinking that I will maybe make a pillow with these. I didn't end up cutting in the middle of the blue piece of felt so one edge is about 1/4" and the other edges are about 1". I'll work out something.
