I needle felted a second camel for my nativity scene with camel fiber. I bought it at a fiber sale last year. The people that were selling the fiber brought one of their dromedary camels. They let us feed him some oats and take a picture with him. He was such an awesome animal I had to get some camel fiber.
The fiber I got was a mix of soft undercoat and long hairy fibers. It was a bit of a challenge to use.

I have some i am saving for the right idea to felt. it is fine and soft so I would think like other fine fibers it would take longer to needle it.

I had difficulty needle felting camel fiber as it took longer to hold together and firm up but it did eventually work. We got some baby camel fiber for my granddaughter and that seemed to work better.

Thanks everyone, I thought as much, it would probably work best blended, I need to get an order off to WOW, they always have such a wonderful range.

I bought some baby camel from WOW but haven't made anything with it yet, apart from a small sample of prefelt, comparing it to a similar sized piece of merino. The camel took twice as long to get to the same stage as the merino, but it is incredibly soft and gorgeous.
