Tapered Ends Cord with Wire These are samples for my class. I put them into my sketchbook for display.

Interesting, can you tell us how you did it or is that against class rules?

Machined cords are easy to make Ann. I make them by using a very close zig zag stitch just wide enough to enclose the base yarn. I should think that's how Ruth does them?

That's correct Judith. They are easy, you just zigzag around a core.

For variety, you can use a looser zig-zag and go over the core twice, using different colour threads.

I did that on some of my other ones Lyn. There seem to be endless options for cords.

Cool idea Would it work on thin strips of felt?

Sure, you can use anything for the center core. It just needs to be thin enough that your widest zigzag stitch will cover it completely. The needle shouldn't hit the core but go on either side of it. You should try some Zed.
Paula - machined cords are easy, so give it a go! Thanks Karen!!

Ruth, my tredle machine doesn't zig or zag! Up and down, forward and backward, pedal pedal...I love it but there are times when I would like to use a real machine.

Sulasmom, I had a hand cranked old Singer for about 25 years until recently, my mum gave me her machine and I've pretty much only zig-zagged so far, I'm obsessed I'm not sure I can control the speed well enough yet to try cords, though

Zed - Just try a short one. The speed doesn't really matter. It is how you move the core back and forth under the needles.
Paula - we'll have a play at my house so you can try it! ;D
