I made this wet felted cowl for a gift exchange and I am really pleased with it ;D it's not quite finished yet, it still isn't dry and I'm waiting for some buttons through the post so I can select one as a fastener. I was very nervous about how much it would shrink by but it's perfect. It is 100% merino wool in boysenberry blend, which was a limited edition blend from Sara's Texture Crafts. I'm going to be very sad to see this go!

Thank you my buttons arrived today, I will post a pic tomorrow in daylight, we have spotlights here and it makes for terrible photos! A quick question, would merino blended with silk be suitable for wet felting?

Fantastic! What's Boysenberry? Love the colour, i'm really into Purple! Though you're obviously much younger than me, there is a poem, which really fits - for me, though I don't YET have the red hat. Warning When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall go out in my slippers in the rain And pick flowers in other people's gardens And learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat And eat three pounds of sausages at a go Or only bread and pickle for a week And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes. But now we must have clothes that keep us dry And pay our rent and not swear in the street And set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practice a little now? So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple. Jenny Joseph Submitted: Friday, January 03, 2003

I think I'm doing it back to front Judith That's a gorgeous cowl, Sarah, it looks lovely and soft. All the merino and silk blends I've bought have been great for wet felting, or are you blending it yourself? I think some of my flickr contacts use 50/50 merino and silk for scarves.

Thank you for your lovely comments I would be buying blended merino/silk rather than doing it myself, good to know it will work with wet felting. Sorry koffipot, I have no idea what a boysenberry is! I do like the poem though ;D Here's a photo of my lovely buttons, as requested, I got them from www.textilegarden.com

Boysenberry is a bramble fruit (imagine raspberry + loganberry + blackberry).
Please post a piccie of the cowl with button.

I love that poem. It's an old saying that purple is for old ladies. I don't think I am that old but I love purple. the buttons are great I especially like the wooden one with the cut outs and the one to to the right that looks porcelain. Merino and silk together makes beautiful felt.
