Hi-I just mane my first pig from a kit. That was a great learning experience! I'm addicted! BUT...I am allergic to scented products, and I've received some very perfumed wool lately. I tried rinsing it and put it outside to "out-gas", but no luck. One person told me they sprayed a scented product on their woo; to keep moths away., and that the smell could be rinsed off. No such luck.
Any thoughts on this matter?
Other than that, I'm excited to start a new project, and have been perusing tutorials.
On a personal note, I an a water-colorist, bird photographer and musician. As I get older, it is harder to hold a heavy camera, and I don't do much painting. So this is perfect. Paint with wool! (and I still play piano and recorder.)

Hello and welcome to the forum. Your pig is delightful!
I've never had perfumed wool before - from where did you source the wool that was scented?

I don't want to name anyone, but as to scented products,, but the worse one was a kit I bought on Etsy that was a picture of a sheep and a sunset. From England. She was the one who sprayed the wool with a scented product to prevent moths.I don't quite get it, as the wool is all packaged and protected.... What do people usually do with protect their creations from insect damage and dust? I can see possible long term concerns in that regard.

Welcome, glad you joined us. Your pig is adorable. I look forward to seeing what else you create. I have never gotten any scented wool either. So I would just avoid this resource in the future and try other places. World of Wool in England is good. You don't say where you are from, if you let us know, we can suggest places that are close to you.
The easiest way to avoid moths/insects is to put the wool in the freezer for a couple of day. I don't do anything with mine and it stays just fine. There are several posts on here about storage that you could read through for suggestions. Just use the search feature.

Welcome, I have never had scented wool either. Moths hate the light and air movement. If you regularly rummage your wool and don't hide it in the dark, you are usually fine. I keep all mine in plastic bags and clear bins with good lids.
Your piggy is very cute.

I am in Norwich, Vermont USA, near the New Hampshire border (Hanover, N. H. -Dartmouth College is nearby.) I don't know of any resources here, but since I'm new to this, maybe I've missed something.
I love the freezer idea! Non-toxic. .

I use RH Lindsay. I dye my own wool and it helps to buy large quantities but good prices if you can afford the larger quantities. rhlindsaywool.com/index.htm

the other thing to look for is fibre festivals. I don't know if there is one in Vermont but I know there is a big one in Rhinbeck(sp) NY. check with your local weavers and spinners group. this is a good resource www.camillavalleyfarm.com/other/weavingguilds.htm but check with any knitting groups near you as well. the festivals usually have specialty knitting yarns as well.

Hello and welcome! I love your first pig, it seems very detailed, with proper trotters and all! It just takes one to become addicted!
I recently found very scented locks sent from a UK Etsy seller, but it was the only one that I got scented! All the rest of my wool came smelling of nothing or of wool. If you can't stand it, maybe you can swap it with someone else close to you? I appreciate that a strong smell can be trying in your house.
I am sure that you will find wool sellers closer to you as you create your felting contacts. Happy felting!

Hello Newfelter3,
I have a little shop in my house, with very reasonable prices. If you need fiber, I have dyed and undyed, with no added scent. I don’t advertise on FFS at all, but consider me a resource for anything you might need. You can look up my blog articles on the forum, and reach out to me at playingwithfiber@comcast.net
