I came across this book when I was browsing the latest Search Press catalogue and thought that some of our members might find it interesting. It is in the series "The Innovative Artist" and it's by Helen Kaminsky. It's full title seems to be Abstracts and Mixed Media - Brilliant new ways with colour, texture and form.
I don't know if you have come across the Innovative Artist series before. The flyleaf says: "The Innovative Artist Series provides a unique insight into the methods and materials used by leading contemporary artists who are pushing the boundaries of their art. Through numerous examples of the author's work alongside practical demonstrations, each book provides a fascinating exploration of the artist's creative process that will inspire the reader to move forward on their own artistic journey."
The contents list is as follows:
Introduction.
Inspiration; Demonstration: The Toolmaker [in each case the demonstration is a step by step journey from beginning to end of each piece of art]
The Art of the Abstract.
Colour; Demonstration: Rock Strata; Demonstration: The Meeting of the Waters.
Composition; Demonstration: Playtime with Matisse.
Design; Demonstration: Rocky Road.
Interpretation; Demonstration: Pollen for the Bees.
My Working Process; Demonstration: Cottage on a Hillside.
Materials and Tools.
Mixing the Media.
Creating Backgrounds; Demonstration: New Directions; Demonstration: An Artist's Garden; Demonstration: A Different Perspective.
Collage; Demonstration: Retro City.
Veiling and Lifting; Demonstration: Watermelon Woman.
Transparency
Printing
Mark Making; Demonstration: Red Lillies.
Varnishing and completing.
The book is brand new - published this year, so I expect that it will have a lot of new ideas on mixed media. I am sorry to say that the book is not for me with my literal mind and strictly representational work, but I know that a lot of you will find it interesting. I was able to get a copy from our library to have a look at, as I tend to do before I buy just in case the book, like this one, doesn't really appeal to me.
The ISBN for the print book is 978-1-78221-877-7 and for the e-book is 978-1-78126-846-9 The price printed on the back is £17.99 /US$29.95/CAN$34.95, but with the pound shooting up and down at the moment, the price could be anything!
Amazon have it on this page Amazon Link where you can have a look inside. I hope it is of interest.
