Hello All, another Ruth here, but nickname is Pegs. I’m not sure I have the working of this Board figured out - I’m not very tech savvy. I’m a newbie felter - I’ve been spinning our alpaca fibre for some years and want to try something new. I’m particularly drawn to Nuno felting and have made two scarves this week. I have many questions and they are probably so basic you’ll all groan. Like how do you know when the felting process is finished? How do you make good edges? I’ll hunt around on this site but you might take pity on me and point me in the right direction

Welcome Pegs! I'm glad you joined us. It's okay to ask questions, we were all newbies once. There is tons of information here. I would start under the wet felting and nuno felting sections. But you can also use the search function.
Knowing when it's finished is sometimes hard to describe. My suggestion is to keep going until you can't get the piece to shrink any further. That means do more fulling than you think it needs. It's better to do small samples when you are starting so that you can see the difference in the samples. For example, do three small samples and take them to different stages in the process. Then you can see the differences. Sometimes, you may not need to shrink the piece down completely. for example, wall hangings might not need to be fulled as much.
Good edges have more to do with layout than anything. You have to make sure that all your layers are even and there isn't less fiber or more fiber at the edges as different amounts of fiber felt differently. It's a matter of practice more than anything. Hope that helps!

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to answering your questions. The only bad question is one not asked.

Welcome.
I too have found this format challenging but… slowly I’m catching the hang of it.

Well, I guess I am a bit late with my welcome, Ruth (Pegs), and hopefully you are now further on your felting journey and you will have found an answer to your first questions!
