I took an online live felting workshop last weekend with Aniko Boros (see Baribon.hu) to learn how to make this tulip neckpiece. It’s made with 14.5 micron merino wool that I dyed (I’ve posted more about that on the forum’s dyeing board). I’ve not worked much before with such fine wool - it is unbelievably soft. Reminds me of fine nubuck leather rather than wool.

I've never used wool that fine either - interesting that you think it's like nubuck leather.
It's very pretty and what makes it special is the variegated colour - so well done on the dyeing!
What are the dimensions?

Thanks very much Lyn. Maybe something between nubuck and velvet!
The flower section is approx 5.5 cm wide, 6.5 cm high and 2.5 cm deep. The cords are each about 55 cm long. The cords run round the back of the neck then the ends come round the front. I need to make a little runner for the cords to go through that sits at the back of the neck to help keep it in place. It’s part of the design but I haven’t got round to it yet.

It sounds like a fabulous texture to have on your skin.

Your necklace is terrific Lindsay, I love the shape and your dyed wool is beautifulI! I’m hoping to do that workshop when it’s next advertised. Did you buy your extra fine fibre from DHG?

Thank you, Karen. I got the white 14.5 mic merino from World of Wool. They seem to have it in stock for £8.95 for 100g (plus postage). If you need to search for it type ‘ultra fine’ into the box. It’s not cheap but you don’t need much at all.

It sounds like a fabulous texture to have on your skin. It’s funny you should say that but I’m not actually sure I can wear it! My skin hates wool. Once I’ve got the little runner made I will try but it’s possible I will only be able to wear it with collars or high necks.

This is gorgeous Lindsay! I am glad you made the point about the closure at the back of the neck. I was wondering how it would stay on well. Your dyeing makes the piece for me. I haven't used this fine a fiber either but it does give a very smooth surface. I think it would look lovely over a turtleneck or some other high necked blouse.

Yes, I’m pleased with the dyeing. I’m definitely going to wear it but as you say, maybe only over clothing.

Beautiful Lindsay. I haven't worked with such fine wool either. I have been eyeing some with pebbles in a necklace. I just can't remember where I saw it. I keep thinking it would be a good workshop to take. It will look stunning on a black turtleneck, perfect for a gallery opening.

Love your variegated necklace - you must be thrilled not only with the dyeing but also with the end result. I've been a fan of Aniko Boros for a long time but haven't yet managed to do her workshop.
You gave us the dimensions which helps to imagine how it will look when worn. Is the centre stone element created separately?
Make sure you finish the cord sleeve so that you can wear it whilst you need high neck woolly pullies!!

Thank you, Antje. The central section is all made in a single piece, including the pebble. Yes, I must get on and do the fastening thing though as I’m not going anywhere at the moment, I can wear it as is, so long as I sit reasonably still!

Hi Lindsay, I think that is stunning, well done! Doing one of Aniko Boros is on my wish list. I agree with the others that your colour variations work with this piece really well.
