I will be laying out a sewing pattern on my handmade nuno felted yardage, made with 4.5 momme habotai silk fabric and 18.5 micron merino wool. It's a sturdy nuno felt. My pattern instructions say: “be sure all grain lines are parallel to selvage”. I know that my silk fabric has a grain. And my wool layout was: 1st layer horizontal, 2nd layer vertical.
Do I lay the pattern according to the grain of the habotai? Does the grain of the habotai get lost after its felted with the wool? Does it matter? What are your thoughts and experiences? Thank you so much! Maggie

I would go with the silk grain but you need to lay it out as somthing with no stretch. Usualy grain effects stretch and drape.
