I’ve had to tear myself away from seed pods to prepare for an exhibition next month with the title ‘Shoreline’. It’s a 3 woman exhibition I’m sharing with 2 friends who make lovely work in fused glass and ceramics. We’re lucky enough to live by the sea and are inspired by our beautiful coastal environment. We’ve exhibited together before and our work seems to go well together so I’m looking forward to it. Here’s the first piece I’ve made specially for this exhibition. I have to confess I’m really pleased with it: it turned out as well as I imagined it, which often isn’t the case! https://www.instagram.com/p/B8yF3piF1_z

So that I don’t sound too pleased with myself, this is the second piece I’ve made for the exhibition (still wet and will probably get a shave before it’s finished). www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/49726774I like most of it but am cross with myself for laying out the top bit into concentric circles instead of a spiral, which is what I’d intended and is much more likely in a shell shape. I find it difficult to focus on anything else.

The star fish is perfect! I love the effect you got by covering your colored wool with white. The shell looks massive! And I don't think too many people will notice the concentric folds on top. Although, it's hard to leave it when you aren't happy with it.

Thanks, Ruth. The starfish is also pretty big. I was pleased with the colour effect: a case of necessity being the mother of invention as I’m enjoying using carded batts rather than tops but I don’t have them in so many colours so I had to improvise. I’ll have to leave the shell as it’s very solid but maybe I’ll just have to make another.....

I think they are both great. I agree with Ruth I don't suppose anyone else will notice its concentric circles. I know when it's your own piece it is all you can see. I hope you share pictures of the exhibit when it's up. The last one looked so nice.

The starfish is wonderful - perfect shape/form and love the colours too.
Don't overthink the shell - it's a great piece of felting - and most people won't even give it a thought ... but somehow I feel that you're gonna have another go.

Yes, it’s nice that we get to know each other via these boards. Of course I will do another one if I don’t get distracted by another shiny thing first. It’s about 50:50 at the moment!

It’s so difficult not to focus on the one thing you don’t like even though you know no one else will care. Yes, I will definitely share pics of our group show. I’m really looking forward to what my friends have been making.

Love them both.

Love both your giant creations. As everyone has said - I don't think the casual onlooker will see the concentric rings....and surely it is a modern take on Mother Nature! Enjoy your show. Looking forward to seeing your photos.
