This is a needle felted duck that my granddaughter made. I thought you all might want to see it. I gave her some basic instructions several years ago but she has kind of worked it out as she goes. She's twelve now but started when she was ten.

That's a wonderful duck! Ashley is clearly talented with the fibre. I think it's great that she needle felts - children need to experience making things with their hands.

Seriously cute! I like the extra detail of putting it in a basket, adding a hat and a litfle flower ont he basket. It shows extra thought and effort.

She is going to make a figure for each holiday. This is for Easter. She is making a witch for Halloween. Thanks for the wonderful comments!

and needle felting would work into mixed media so well. you can needle onto or around lots of things.

So cute, I thought "briefly" about letting miss Sophie aged 8 near my needles and decided against it so knowing Ashley started about age 10 gives me a ball park age as to when I could trust her to not injure herself. For the moment painting seems to be her thing, I have noticed her concentrated can be very erratic if she's had anything too sugaring before hand so think needles will be a long way off for her yet. Love the way her little face lights up though when we head to the studio. I bought several pairs of craft scizzors for fancy edging on cards I'm sure she'll enjoy playing with for the moment.

Tess its so nice for you to have her with you in the studio, maybe she could make some felted soaps , no needles, good xmas prezzies for her teachers ? when your ready for her to try needles then she could make a flat piece instead of something she has to hold in her hands, that way the needles is always away from her xo

Good idea Karen, we have done balls for the SPCA kittens one Christmas and I remember her being up to her arm pits in suds.
