I hope this kicks off the new quarter's challenge. I made two pieces of felt: one in yellows, pinks, oranges and one in terracotta to which I added a generous layer of Sarah's knops. sarastexturecrafts.com/products/62804--wool-knops.aspxI cut the shape of Australia from the embellished piece and then joined it to the yellow piece with iron on sticky stuff, then I cut a kangaroo from the remnant and ironed it on. Voila!

Oh that's fabulous, love those colours and the texture. I saw some roos while out and about today (and an emu with the most gorgeous little chicks) so it was great to this this piece of felt.

In my world this is called reverse applique. All we have in middle America is dead possums all over the roads. Not very attractive. ha.

Thank you for your kind comments.
You may be familiar with my preferred colour palette (sort of pretty 'ice-cream' colours) so to work with these 'hot' colours was way out of my comfort zone! But I'm pleased with the result.
This is the first time I've used knops with such abandon, and having done so I now have plans for another piece.

That's a good motto:
Embellish with abandon!

This is my effort for this challenge...., bit of a UFO at the momment but I intend it to be a purse eventually. If Australia experiences an horrific bushfire season in the summer here in NZ we get THE most amazing sunsets due to all the smoke in the asmosphere. These are the colours I see on a summer's evening looking to the west over the back paddock, always tinged with sadness due to loss of life, peoples homes and livelyhood and of course animals and livestock.. gotland fibre, hand dyed mohair locks (from Poppy) and some silk fibres.

Tess - we get these types of sunsets with fires here. It is sad to have such beautiful colors come from such destruction. Your piece is wonderful.
I clicked on it to get a bigger view and I got a message that I shouldn't go to that site as it was a "known malicious website". Just thought you might want to know that.

Thanks Ruth can you tell me more, the photo is stored on photobucket and that's used by twitter facebook and lots of others for picture hosting. I've just enlarged it and got the bigger picture. We also have the latest anti virus software on our computer.
