Thanks very much Ann. A few of my students (how lovely to say that 'my students'!) have said they cannot wait for the workshop, I think that is just fantastic. I cannot wait either mind you.

Congratulations to both of you. I really enjoy teaching. Students are always enthusiastic and so exited to learn. I am sure you will both be great teachers. You are always very helpful hear and explain yourselves well. My only advice is if you are going to hand out instructions do it at the end of class. If you hand then out at the beginning some will try to read ahead and not listen to instructions. Good luck and have fun Thank you Ann. Very sound advice. I now have 2 people on the waiting list for October (but I haven’t convinced them to book for February instead!) and must have run through the whole day several times in my head already so fingers firmly crossed for a successful day. I know I’m enthusiastic about feltmaking so need to make sure I communicate that well.

I have a couple of willing workshop guinea pigs that I will be practicing on soon, could you do this Lindsay?

Use the instruction sheets as a lesson plan. It helps keep you on track.

I have made up a plan of the day time wise. I have never had to follow such a schedule before so I will try not to get too stressed if it goes off plan for the first time, I will just have to play catch up. I can change things if needed for the next time. I have stressed the words relaxing time on my advertising, it is meant to be fun. I will live and learn.

It's a good idea to have a practice run Tracey - if there any niggles they will show up and can be sorted! It will also be good to try out keeping to a timed schedule.

Thanks Lyn. I will still find it very useful to do a practice run on a couple of pals, but unfortunately due to space it will only be two. I will have to envisage more students taking more time to choose wools, pace of work etc. All will be fine!

Yes I have to hurry them up when piking thier main colours sometimes. And there is always one that thinks its a race and you have to slow them down. I bring a sample of what happens if you go to fast. I have learned to accept everyone one will not always be at exactly the same place at the same time.

I have a couple of willing workshop guinea pigs that I will be practicing on soon, could you do this Lindsay? I have done something similar with 2 friends - it was about a year ago - so I'm just going to go for it with the bigger group. There's quite a bit of flexibility in my plan (eg playing at making pre-felt with different inclusions) so I think it will be OK so long as I move them along to start their final piece in good time. I'm teaching a 2 day mental health first aid course over the next 2 Saturdays to 16 bereavement counsellors (one of whom is registered blind) to a very tight timescale and with slides and film clips (the IT fills me with dread) so I reckon if I can get through that the felting will be comparatively easy!

Yes Lindsay, if you can get through the 2 day mental health first aid course in one piece, then the felting tuition will be a breeze!

I always thought I didn't like to teach because I taught things like math and physical therapy. But I love teaching felting/fiber art because I am passionate about the subject. Makes a world of difference.

I am very passionate about mental health and I do love to teach the course but I haven’t done it for a while and there’s a level of challenge about this particular course (eg I can’t check the IT works until the day itself) that’s causing me a certain amount of anxiety. I’m sure it will be fine but I’ll be very relieved once I know everything works and we can get under way. Fortunately felting is gloriously low-tech and I can set up the room the day before so it should be plain sailing!

You are setting the room up the day before? I am doing it an hour before start, am I missing something ha ha! Fortunately it’s in the same building as my studio. It’s a large teaching room with flexible furniture but it’s used by various people / classes in different ways (eg for upholstery) so it will take a while for me to get all the tables out & in the right places. There’s also a large shared sink in there that will need a bit of cleaning (to say the least!). It’s easier for me to do it the day before.
