I have to apologize for the missing apostrophes in our 2Q newsletter. Evidently, Wordpress doesn’t like them. They were all there when I transferred the copy from Word. But couldn’t enlarge the screen to see they were missing in the Wordpress copy. I really do know how to punctuate properly. :-)

No worries Marilyn, that email function is pretty sad as you can't add photos or anything nice

Hmm. I obviously managed not to post my previous reply. Trying again Sample one I found some discs in a charity shop this weekend that looked like large sequins. I wanted to try sandwiching them between the silk and the wool on a piece of nuno felt, hoping for some nice round bubbles of silk with rouching around. When I started to felt them it quickly became clear they were nothing like sequins at all. They became sticky when wet and then turned into a horrible sticky gel that sort of pulped then oozed out. Yeuk. Not a complete dead loss as I can see the idea of unfelted silk bubbles has potential but I think I’m actually going to have to throw something away for once (the non-sequins). www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/46504320Purple gel oozing out www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/46504322www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/46504324

Oh, ICK, Lindsay!
One way to get the effect I think you were looking for is to use a resist between the layers. It could be a non-felting piece of fabric, or a thin resist. I've used Tyvek - the stuff FedEx mailers are made of.

The silk scarf made beautiful nuno! Scrummy colours and texture.
(I believe that time spent rummaging in a charity shop is time well spent.)
What on earth were the purple things?

The scarf looks lovely. Yuck, purple ooze. I wonder what they are.

I thought the ‘sequins’ would be good as I might not have to cut them out but you’re right, maybe some non-felting fabric. Or maybe even some actual sequins!

Glad you like the scarf Lyn. It’s a bit outside my usual muted palette comfort zone but it’s good to experiment. The texture is particularly interesting as one of the components (I think the weft) hasn’t really felted but is sitting in neat loops flat on the surface held down by the (presumably) warp. The merino looks like it has sort of attached to the back of the silk threads rather than migrating through the fabric, if that makes sense. As as for the purple things, I genuinely cannot imagine what they were for.......other than to confuse and dye the fingers of a felt maker!

I can’t imagine anything wearable or washable would something that would melt and ooze. "Sampling makes sense trying something unknown. Sorry you had such a purple ooze experience.

I wrote a reply yesterday and it disappeared. Anyways, I love the scarf nuno sample, it is gorgeous! Interesting to hear that weft is still sitting on top. I wonder if they warp and the weft are two different types of fiber? The purple ooze sounds disgusting but glad you survived
