Does anyone have any tips, tutorials, or general experience with adding embroidered detail to a felted sculpture or form with no "wrong" side? My experience with embroidery is very limited but I am trying to add some details to a doll. I am not sure how to keep little fuzzies from coming up with the floss. Thanks!

I’m not much of an embroiderer, but many members use it for embellishment on all sorts of creations. I look forward to see how the sculpture evolves. Have fun!

I have not done embroidery on needle felted 3D pieces. However, it should work fine if you use a nice long needle to be able to get through the thicker portions. What were you thinking of adding? Just a few stitches?
I don't think any fuzzies will come up. The main problem is hiding the ends etc. inside so the stitches will hold.

My 3D stitching experience is limited to embroidery on felt beads. If the felt is dense it hangs on to the embroidery thread really well, so to start stitching I insert the needle on the opposite side of the bead, gently pull the thread through until it just disappears from sight then I make the first stitch carefully so as not to pull on the the thread. Finishing is a reverse of starting - I exit the needle well away from the last stitch, then snip the thread close to the felt. A gentle massage of the exit point and the thread end disappears but is held fast.

I do the same as Lyn and felt seems to eat up the ends - no visible signs, when I am embroidering, I don't go deep with the needle either and use a fine sharp needle - I know it sounds daft but we change machine needles frequently and forget hand sewing needles get blunt too. I did want to add a machine embroidery once to a 3D pod and what I did was place strands of fibres between soluble sheets, embroidered and then needle felted it into position. If you want to have a look it's my bluebird pod. www.facebook.com/BagsaLicious/photos/a.747763595254365.1073741831.482698611760866/747883495242375/?type=3&theater

Thank you all for the advice! I gave the embroidery a few more tries but ultimately didn't enjoy my results and went with felted details instead. I will have to practice and try again on something else. Carole, I really like your technique, thanks for sharing!
