These are some hand dyed wool threads that I use for hand stitching. They were dyed with acid dyes. I found the white wool thread at Paradise Fibers labeled "lace weight wool". I still have a bunch left and I plan on dyeing more very soon.

Great idea They look really nice. I bought some hand dyed ones from etsy and they are gorgeous. I'll have to look for that lacewight wool to try it.

Those threads are really gorgeous, Karen.
I'm curious about dying. I have lots of dyes here now, but haven't been brave enough to really try. What stops me is it seems I need a large quantity of something to dye or I will totally waste all the dye. You seem to have lots of threads dyed different colors, did you do them all one day because you wanted thread, or over a period of time as you were dying other things?

I dyed the threads in baggies in the microwave. I used leftover dyes from dyeing wool.

Which dye do you use Ruth? I've tried a couple Ashford and Jaquard.

I have been using Jacquard acid dyes but recently got Dharma's house brand.

you can do small amounts of wool. just use a small amount of the powder or make up a stock solution and use small amounts of that. I will see if I can find the stock solutin formula. it may be on my dead computer so i will have to email a friend to get it again.

I sent Pam a PM about this but I don't think she saw it. Is there a way of putting the new message thing back at the top, I don't think anyone will notice it right down at the bottom.

Hi Zed, no, I didn't see it, but I will go look for it now! Thanks, just a new habit I have to get into, I think.

I put in the request for the instructions on making a stock solution. it is great for small amounts because you use so many CC's (in a syringe) for so many grams of wool.

I made a tutorial for direct dyeing a few months ago, I just had to change a couple of things, but my Word trial finished I've bought it now, so I finished it off, I'll be posting it on the blog sometime this week, it has the amounts for making very small quantities.

the formula I am going to post is for making a stock solutin of dye. You can dye a lot or a little. what really matters if you want to be able to make the same colour time after time is that you use the same formula everytime. The tutorial would be very usefull to have with it.
