This is a book page that I made last year that is a combination of needle felting and free motion machine stitching. The theme for this book was fairy tales.

I bought some soya bean top a few months ago (I've only had the staple fibre before) and my first thought when I opened it was Rapunzel's hair It looks just like this. Is the grass stitching?

If I remember correctly, the Rapunzel's hair here is Wensleydale locks. The grass is free motion machine stitched. Grass is easy to do as you just move up and down in small motions to replicate grass stems. Pretty much all the background is machine stitched.

I got my machine for under $150 at Costco. But you probably don't have those in the UK, do you?

That is the kind of projects that I want to do. I am pretty fair at threadpainting, but really like the extra texture that needlefelted fabric provides. I also like the fact that felt can be used with water soluble stabilizer. Since I have about 2 years worth of fabric art prepared for exhibits, I plan to spend more time doing small projects like yours. It is wonderful.

Thanks Judy, the felting really adds dimension.

Joking aside though, this is gorgeous. It must have taken you ages to do!

Thanks! It didn't take all that long. Just the castle was a bit tedious.
