Hello Everyone!
I'm very sorry to have been away for so long (10 months!). I hope you can forgive me. There are many reasons, but mostly I told myself I would take a short break of a couple of weeks when we got a new boss at work (stressful!), and then it was three months and I felt guilty about missing all your lovely posts, and then it was another three months and I was super busy at work again, and then it was another three months in the blink of an eye. I'll be catching up on your wonderful work in the next few weeks.
I haven't been completely idle, craft-wise. As far as felting goes, I bought Ruth's felting book(it's awesome!), and downloaded a set of tutorials from Russian hat designer Irina Spasskaja with some very interesting techniques. I made one hat for my cousin and reshaped the coral pink hat that I made last fall after Teri Berry's hat class. I knitted several items, many from the yarn I got last year at the SAFF convention in Asheville, NC. Made a few beaded bracelets for gifts for folks. And most recently I enrolled in an online sewing class so that I can do more with my sewing machine than free sewing a la Annie and Lyn (which is of course the best use of a sewing machine, but I also would like to know how to hem pants, haha).
Inspiration-wise, I got to go to London for a few days after a work conference in June. Among other wonderful ramblings, I visited three art museums and learned about the work of the Bloomsbury Group, whose work reminds me a lot of the post-impressionist & colorist painters that I saw in your work in the first quarter challenge, plus they did a lot with textiles and home design and writing (Virginia Woolf and her sister Vanessa Bell were among them). I knew about Virginia Woolf's work but had never heard of the Bloomsbury Group. In August, my work took me to Lithuania for a few days (I'm very lucky!) and I found some beautiful felted items in their souvenir shops, and bought two small flat flowers with what looks like silk fiber as decoration.
I have lots of pics to share and will work on that later today.
With contrite feelings and best wishes,
tricia
