I found this piece of advice on FB and said how clever! For those who are not on FB I am just quoting the post by Vera Misha A McDonald: " If the cotton weave is too tight it is necessary to use the sewing machine without thread to create a hole through which the wool will come through cotton. And to rub it is only necessary on the part of the fabric with abundant soap and water. Rubbing should be done very lightly. This technique can be used for synthetic fabric as well.

I think it'd worked particularly well if you want to create some pattern. Could be gorgeous! For random I'd take a few felting needles bound together and go over the fabric, making punctures. Just a thought! Would love to know from smb who tried!

Why do I remember those ideas when it is already too late? Is it the age?

Ahhh, because you're caught up in the moment? :-) Yes, too busy with felting. I am going to a fair again in may. And i am trying to make a vest like Svetlana Vronsskaya. some poleyster fabric didn't felt in (needle felted holes forgotten). it is a big 'delivery' . So far just finished the back.

I think some felting needles would be quicker too. But a good idea to create holes. I don't know why synthetic fibers should cause trouble. When I used nylon shears to cover my felt they always tried to attach to my work.

An embellisher would be ideal I'd guess BUT that or felting needles by hand could end up chewing up the fabric because of the barbs!

Maybe, I would certainly use finer ones. I think I would probably do it with the wool on the one side, so you are taking wool through too. I have needle felted pictures on to denim without any problem with the fabric integrity.
