I had this idea about felting an interpretation of the 4 elements, i.e. Earth, Water, Fire and Air. I have done Earth and Water (will add photos below), and I have an idea about Fire (in red-orange-yellow). But I'd love to hear any ideas on how to felt Air...? I'd like it to be a different colour scheme from the others, and the blues are already "taken" by Water. So I was thinking purples and pinks. Maybe a sunrise with clouds...? Maybe with a real feather stitched on, "floating in the air"...? Or dandelion seeds spreading in the wind (embroidered on the felted piece). Any other ideas?

This is my interpretation of "Earth".

Great ideas. I love the feather and dandelion ideas. I'll bet you can also get the effect of streaming air with a couple of those embellishments zigzagging in the wind. A tornado? Ripples in a river, sure it can be purple with a pink sunset. :-). Have fun!

And this is "Water". Both are about 30cm x 20cm. So that's the size I'm aiming for, and meant to hang on a wall.

By the way, your comment link wasn't working on your blog. I had to go to your website link.

These are great Zara. I think it's a great idea. I think something either blowing in the wind or your sunset/sunrise idea is good. The only other thing I could think of was balloons but that doesn't seem to go with your other ideas.

That could definitely work too. Obviously, with a purple-pink sunset in the background... I may have to do several "air"-pieces...! ;-) Thanks Ruth!

How about laundry blowing in the wind. But I like the idea of the dandelions blowing across a sunset/rise with some wispy clouds.

These two are gorgeous, Zara. And you already have so many good ideas for the remaining two. Just follow your momentary inspiration, that would be the best.

Seriously fabulous Zara, I love them very much! I like the idea of the dandelion seeds for air a lot. The colour scheme that came into my head for this element was lovely soft greys.

And one idea doesn't have to excluding the other. I could start with felting the sunset, and then see what I can add by sewing and embroidery.

Seriously fabulous Zara, I love them very much! I like the idea of the dandelion seeds for air a lot. The colour scheme that came into my head for this element was lovely soft greys. I was thinking a rather pale background, a layer of white wool covered with a thinner layer of blue-purple-pink. And then clouds, in mainly grey and white, with some slivers of pink. I have some silvery grey kapok that definitely brings "clouds" to mind.
