Hello. I stumbled upon this website just last week and was very pleased to find it! My favourite past time is wet-felting. I like to make large pieces for wall art, but have recently discovered 3d vessels as well, which I find very satisfying to make. What I like most, and call me crazy, is the challenge of trying to achieve straight lines or a consistent pattern in fibres that naturally want to be wavy. I bought a bag of nepps the other day, and I'm going to use them to try and create a design in pointillism style. You can have a look over at www.flicstarstudios.com. I'll let you know how it turns out. Now I'm off to have a good look around your site!

Welcome, I am Judy, a mixed media artist. I am here to learn. I don't know a lot about felt, but use it sometimes in my mixed media compositions. The idea of pointillism fiber art is quite interesting. Am anxious to see this.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I love your bamboo hanging! And I'm looking forward to seeing your pointillism piece.
Do try a small sample with the nepps first - I made the mistake of placing some nepps too close together, and although the design looked great at the laying-out stage, during the felting process the nepps melted together so they just looked like a splodge.

Hi and Welcome to the forum You make some really nice things. I liked the step by step photos of the diary cover. What did you use for that, batts or prefelt, it looked interesting. I'd agree with Lyn about the nepps. I'm interested to see your pointilism piece, I did think (for about 5 seconds) of doing something like that when I was abstracting photos for Ann's quarterly challenge on the studio site. feltingandfiberstudio.com/2012/04/01/2012-second-quarter-studio-challenge/

Thanks everyone, for your welcoming comments.
I was working on my pointillism felt yesterday and gosh, it took me longer than I expected. I must have spent over an hour placing the dots/nepps. Then it took me a while to wet the whole thing down because the batt was quite thick through. I was tired by then, so only got it felted to soft felt stage. I was quite happy with the layout, but like Lyn said, I entered splodge country soon after I wet it down. I attempted to rescue the design by strategic removing of some dots... I *think* it worked, but will wait till it's fully felted to arrive at a final verdict.
On another note, Shepherdess, I love your cityscape felt. I left a comment for you on the wet felting gallery page. Hope to hear more about that piece.

You might find it easier to wet down you batt( lots of soap helps with that) and then add your dots. they stay in place better on a wet surface. I will go have a look to see what you want to know.
