What fiber does everyone use for needle felting? What is your preferred resource? Understand World of Wool is good from reading through some previous threads, but what about competitive pricing? thanks for your advise!

I actually don't do a ton of needle felting. I usually use a coarser wool such as mixed 56's that I get from RH Lindsay. It comes in white and then I dye it. The people who sell focusing on needle felters seem to charge an arm and a leg. World of Wool is very competitive price wise even with shipping from the UK.

Yes I like domestic 56 I think WOW has English or British 56. Coriadale is good too. I find merino to fine, it takes for ever and doesn't look as nice when finished. If you can find local wool, cheap or free if you can wash it yourself. It is not likely to be fine like merino.

Thanks Ruth and Ann. I think I will try World of Wool, and even RH Lindsay for white. Is RH Lindsay wool already washed?

Depends on what you buy, the mixed 56's is washed and in roving form. RH Lindsay sells in bulk so it makes the most sense to buy large quantities. Do you have someone that would split an order with you?

Thanks Ruth, but I don't have anyone who I can split an order with.

I use merino. I loved Gretel Parker's book. I think that Weir Crafts has great wool and fairly ok prices. I know that corriedale needle felts faster than Merino but I just adore Merino's softness and smoothness.

I use Corriedale as bulk and then maybe some colored merino on top if needed - depends what I am doing, like Ruth I don't do a lot of needle felting. A few pincushions,Christmas decorations and some repairs or detailing is about it for me.I think I am a waterbaby - I like the wet felt best.

I use Merino wool, I always buy from ''Forest Fibres" on Ebay, I think it's very good quality and it's cheapest here for in the UK.

I usually use polyester fiber fill as a core and just do a layer of colored wool on the outside. What I use for the color varies by the texture I want. Quilt batting works well for thin things like necks.

I use merino, I buy from eBay from Forest Fibres. I buy 1kg wool at a time and it lasts forever. Because I'm felting 3d objects I do not need a lot of coloured wool, I only use it at the lasts for colouring the surface.

When I did a lot of needle-felting a few years back, Romney was my go-to choice for nice crimp.

I know someone wo used polyester fiber fill for the core of things as well. the nice thing about needle felting is that you can needle just about anything.
