I wanted to paint some merino roving and it wasn't until I'd wrapped it all up and popped it in the steamer that I remembered I hadnt added any acid to the dye. However, I had soaked the wool in water with white vinegar in for 3 hours beforehand. The colours have come out a little muted, which actually I appreciate as I was afraid I had overdone it with the dyes and it would be too vivid. I was using Eurolana dyes What are the consequences for colour fastness without the acid? Is there any way I can 'correct' it now?

Did you get any dye wash out when you rinsed? If not, it's fine. If it is still washing out, put it in a pot with water and vinegar and simmer or steam.

Agree with Ruth, I once did something similar with a vessel I dyed, I hadn't soaked it in acid first, and didn't realise what I had done until I was rinsing it and watched all the dye washing out! A quick drop into a bag with acid solution and back into the steamer for an hour saved what dye was still left in the pod.
