My grand daughter spent a week with us. Usually it means no felting for me and doing other things she likes. I was very glad when she asked for a new felted cap so I was able to receive my dose of fibre. She was quite specific about it: she wanted purple colour and candy as an embellishment. So this is what I made in the end: I used two layers of fine merino wool, some hand dyed silk hankies and the candy was made with a small piece of slik, nuno felted on wool and embellished with some small beads. www.ipernity.com/doc/724735/41180436 Before she left she said she wanted a new felted top and was quite specific on the design. Well, I'm quite grateful for this- it's just another challenge for me.

Liz, thanks for explaining your warping fibers! I also totally enjoy the freedom of weaving without planning, Serendipity! Of course, I do admire the intricate patterns that many weavers make, but I fear the intense patterning would take the fun out of it for me.
Nada, what a thrill it must be for your granddaughter to design and order a cap! Lovely.

Nice Cap Nada. It's nice that she like what you make. Maybe soon she will want to make her own.

Gorgeous cap for your granddaughter Nada. Soon she'll be able to felt with you. Sounds like she may become a designer. :-). How old is she?

My grand daughter is eight now. She has lots of ideas (the candy was hers), quite interested in felting but lacks patience. We'll see, perhaps later she will become hooked as I am.

I understand about the patience. Luke was five when we made the snakes and ornaments. As soon as he was done, he was gone. Josh was only three and was more fascinated with the soapy water. I'm sure if you made a simple project she may be more interested in helping. She has excellent taste and cute ideas. I'm sure she'll be back for more. :-)

Thanks everyone.
Nada, I love the hat. Your granddaughter looks so cute wearing it. I love her candy idea and how you executed it.

Thank you ladies for your positive comments. Right now I am looking at my GD's drawing: she wants to have a butterfly, flowers, heart, sun and clouds on her top. I think I'm going to nuno felt the top using white gauze as a base.

My daily dose today was cutting a huge piece of felt on the bias and then dying the 2 halves. I am hoping to make some big nuno scarf/wraps with them.

The cap is lovely, Nada You could interest her with small, quick projects to start, when I did Makefest we limited it to 45 mins per session, and a lot of that was choosing colours and design, you could ask her to be your assistant and make small 'samples' for you to see if something will work for her top, she'll become hooked on experimenting!
