I purchased these on my trip to Lancaster PA in June. I decided to use them as embellishments on a scarf. I had never use locks before and did not know what to expect. Since these were not very long I decided to us them as curly embellishment instead of a fringe. They were clean and washed so I did not have to prepare them before use. I laid the scarf out differently from what I normally do which is to gently tease the roving apart and then place it in layers on my pattern. This time I just unwound the roving and gently pulled it to the width I wanted. It certainly made the layout very quick and worked well. The strip on the left is the scarf base. I then came back and placed the curls on the base. Placed a piece of bubble wrap on the top and carefully flipped it over and laid curls on the other side. This is before wetting. Covered it with mesh, wet with soapy water and then felted as I normally would. Just love the finished scarf. It is about 4 to 5 inches wide and 60 inches long. You will notice that I prefer to leave my edges as they naturally lay after felting. click on photos to enlarge (I hope) I am going back to Lancaster overThanksgiving and hope I can go by the shop where I purchased these and show the proprietors the scarf.

Pretty scarf Frances and lovely locks fro Lucy. I use this time saving layout method for cobweb scarves. Enjoy your Thanksgiving trip.

I like the last photo best, you can really see the shine of the locks. I have some Gotland from a sheep called Lucy

This is beautiful! I like the curls and the color gradation. How long does it take to dry? Do you put it in the dryer or just let it air dry?

I let my scarves air dry - if it is a pretty day I put them outside in the sun. As to how long it takes it depends on the thickness of the wool. You can put them in the dryer but be sure it is fully felted and if heat is used you may get some shrinkage. Safer to air dry.
