I had a bag of cat fur that I had been collecting for a bit. It's mostly from my orange DSH as she likes to be combed. My longhair hates it, of course. I felted the hair like a 2-layered flower. This is 100% cat fur with a little embellishing fibers that mostly disappeared. You can still see a glob of them at the bottom. I forgot to weigh it, so I can't say how much fiber I used. I worked the piece just like a merino flower, but just a little harder. I was really surprised at how well it felted. Here's the flower. I'd say it's about 3-4" diameter. Here's a close-up showing how hairy it is.

I'm so glad you shared this Elizabeth, I have been collecting cat fluff from my long haired moggy for nearly a year but haven't found time to test it, at least now I know there is a good chance it will felt, even if it will be hairy

Teri and Marilyn, it was surprisingly easy to felt. I treated it like it was merino, then added a little more time and pressure.
I wonder if there's any way to remove the guard hairs - easily! I can't find my sweater shaver thing or else I'd have tried to clean it up a bit.

Cool fuzzy flower. The guard hairs will shed out but that soft undercoat felts wonderfully. All those mats are just felted fur.

I once needle-felted a cat portrait of my two darlings--adopted brothers--and I used their cat fur as needle-felted embellishments to the cat portraits. It worked amazingly well, but I used other fibers as well--all natural cat colors. Never tried to wet-felt with their fur…yet!

I'm impressed! Felting cat fur was one of my very first experiments with felting and it didn't turn out that well. Maybe or maybe not because I wasn't very experienced with felting. I used a mixture from my 3 cats because I didn't want any one of them feeling left out!
