Hi there I've bought a skirt and chopped it up to get 4 pieces of silk devore (see picture) I love the colours so much I'm scared to experiment on it with wool, so would anyone please be able to offer me some suggestions as to what might work really well with it? The turquoise ground material is very fine and almost like chiffon.

I know you said you didn't want to experiment but what about just taking an inch or so off one edge and felt with that. You could try different colors of wool on that sample to see which you liked best and you can see how it felts. Many times with devore, the patterned part might not felt very well. Some of the areas that are very dense in pattern (flowers) may not allow the wool to migrate through.

That silk is stunning Marian, I'm sooo jealous! Ruth is right, a sample strip with different colours or even blends of colour to give a mottled effect is the safest bet. You might want to include some of the denser areas so you try needle felting if it doesn't attach as much as you would like - needling sometimes makes the silk threads pucker and run. Please share your results

Marian, I felted some samples of Devore silk that I got from Thai Silk. Here's what they looked like. If I remember correctly, I felted these pretty thoroughly, but did not put them through the washer.

Thanks for sharing Elizabeth, did you find the non-etched areas attached well or are they just sitting on the surface of the wool?

Thanks for sharing Elizabeth, did you find the non-etched areas attached well or are they just sitting on the surface of the wool? They're mostly just sitting on the wool's surface.

Marion, I agree to try a small sample. I've done a lot of samples of things I thought would felt well and didn't. I also agree that doing it by hand will probably get better results than the wash machine. Good luck, I look forward to seeing your results. It really is a beautiful piece of silk.
